"That sounds more like whip worm to me; my boy had after several slides was detected with whip; played havok on his system until I just treated with Panacur for 5 days; then 3 weeks later, treated again. That was it. Got rid of it, and same goes for giardia. BOL Nan"

me too...Nan.

Giardia and Whipworm can both be treated with Panacur as mentioned above. Its a very safe med and well worth trying....

Yes, that's why I keep referring to it as fenbendazole- so you can search and see who carries it. I use the Safeguard for goats.

That is a mystery.  If the deworming medication does not solve the problem in a few months, then I would try moistening the kibble with warm water and adding some dog enzymes to the meals. German Shepherds are notorious for digestion and gastro intestinal issues and to me, your problem ( if not worms ) is certainly food/digestion related. Also it sounds like your dog could use a Vitamin B-12 supplement.  B-12 is essential for healthy digestion. If you do give a worm medication and it appears to have cleared the problem up, great, however, it might not have been worms but a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth that the drug clears up for awhile.  If it is a gastro issue, this diarrhea issue will reappear. The enzymes you can buy at a reputable dog food store.  Look for Prozyme they are the plant based ones that might do the trick with help in breaking down the food.
Just a suggestion if the diarrhea continues after deworming.

thanks...like I mentioned his stool is as perfect as can be until the episode happens,,,lasts a day.  my vet says it;s environmental..his stool check last week came back neg for everything and I paid extra for the new giardia test.  I appreciate everyones help!  I'm thinking to treat with the panacur then prozyme in his diet.  He;s getting good nutrition, eats only 3-4 cups a day and is a powerful athletic dog.  I switched to 1x day feeding and will skip a day like Prager mentioned as I think this will help clean out...

Farm store/Tractor Supply, Atwood's, Farm & Fleet, etc. should have it in stock.

My local horse/farm supply got it for me;  and for the life of me I cannot remember the dosage, but my boy was 120 lbs and took 22 cc's each dose,  If you have a good eater you can just put it on their food.  If not get a horse syringe and measure in that.  5 days consequitively.  Wait 2-3 weeks and give another 5 days consequitively.  Should take care of it.  Also my guys did not do very good on Acana was way too rich for them, lots of mushy stool and lots of it.  Just FYI.  Nan
