Only needs a 90 to win :)

By the rules of the book, not 100 pts.  The handler never observes the 3-5 second rule,,,,,,,,,,,,,,look it up, it's in the book.  At championship events, it becomes a 5 sec, 10 sec rule.  The handler is also not allowed to reset the dog from the completion of one exercise to the start of another.  The dog resets himself twice after the finish from the first recall and resets himself once after the second recall.  The handler makes right "curves" and not right turns (although his left turn is better than the other video, handler squares it but the dog drags his back end, still better than the 98).  His speed transitions are faulty.  Normal to fast is not enough of a speed change and his slow to normal is definitely not enough of a change.  (Want to see them correctly done, watch Helmut Raiser or Ivan Balabanov do theirs).  Sorry, not 100 points at a World Championship.  Retrieves were better than the other video, but no 5-10 second rule.  First video the dog rolled the pickup on the flat and was definitely slower, plus all 3 retrieves had poor "holds" in front of the handler and should have been deducted.

Needs a 91 for a 289, there are still other dogs that can win.

Wow Phil, are you a judge? Do you compete at world level championships?

Phil Behun

by Phil Behun on 22 October 2010 - 22:10

No I am not a judge but I have competed at Regional, National and a World Championships in ScHH, IPO and French Ring.  I also coach and train people to compete in SchH and IPO and I make sure that I not only know the rules but my people know and abide by them.  If at all possible, I refuse to lose handler points.

Sorry, not 100 points at a World Championship.

Except, despite your armchair quarterbacking, it was and does stand as a 100 point routine at the World Championship.

Don't shoot the messenger I didn't start the thread, I merely commented on the things that I saw that said "to me" that the routines were not properly scored (IMO,,,,, read the rulebook).  The 98 pt score had numerous segments where the dog/handler lost points,,,,,the judge chose not to take them,,,his problem.  You can't tell me that a dog that rolls the dumbbell on the flat and allows said dumbbell to shift in it's mouth on EVERY retrieve should get 98 pts.  What should the dog receive that goes out faster and comes back faster, has a clean pickup and holds firm be given,,,,110??  Learn the rules.

I know the rules just fine, thank you but I also know that if you talk to a lot of judges that more and more it is the over all performance by the dog and handler that is judged rather than nitpicking every little piece.

Should a dog that is joyful in the work, connected to his handler, alert and readily obedient, fast and responsive be dinged for something as asinine as just rolling the dumbbell in his mouth?

I'm sorry but your attitude is a prime example of why Schutzhund 'the sport' is laughable in regards to it's original intent as a breed survey.

Training can get you perfection per a rule book sure but only heart and a desire to work will get you the attitude that dog showed on the field.

Personally I'd rather have the attitude than the point.

You think that was strong work and power in the obedience?
