After the succession of recalls by Diamond and the continued neglect they have shown in the last 6 yrs ....and the conditions in their processing plants ...... yes ...if you continue to feed you dog those brands of food ....1 you dont really care about your animal,  2 ...you are cheap ... 3 you arent informed....

Doesnt it bother you that given their track record over the yrs ...... you are playing roulette when you feed your dog?  If it doesnt ...........see above

I personally saw the Health Departments copy of the report taken by their inspector at the SC plant........ deplorable conditions! ....... I would NEVER ever use their brands again ....... they are only in it for the money.

Well I hate to tell you Jenni, but Diamond foods are NOT cheap, as you mention, if someone wanted to be cheap they'd buy grocery store feeds. I don't know about your area, but here Diamond Premium Adult, and their Puppy, which is what I feed, is priced comparably to more of the "higher end" foods, but I feed it because I've always had great results on it.  As a matter of fact, I was just at a show last weekend in Ga with 3 of my dogs, and the judges all commented on how well conditioned my dogs were, and that they had excellent coats.  To me, proof is in the puddin!  If you haven't noticed, dogs eat all kinds of carrion, dead stuff, garbage, rotten junk, etc,  they aren't picky and they don't get sick eating this kind of crap, it's how their digestion works.

Ok since we are comparing personal experience to scientific date I guess there is no reason to continue ...... feed then whatever you like ..... just trying to show you the

neglect at Diamond .... it has fallen on deaf ears so to that I say good day!

When my boy was a puppy I fed Wellness large breed puppy.....It was recommended to me by a man that specializes in animal nutrition (MS from Cornell).....He felt that this was the best balanced kibble for a large breed puppy.

As my boy got older (7 months) I  transitioned from Wellness to Orijen Adult.....IMO...you can't go wrong with Orijen. It's expensive but, he's not had any major growth spurts, has grown at nice even rate and is as healthy as a horse :)

If you are limited to what you can spend on dog food I would recommend researching for a grain free dog food that has a good calcium to phosphorus ratio (VERY IMPORTANT) and quality protein (meat) being the first ingredient. There's a great website (I can't remember what it is at the moment) that evaluates kibble dog foods. Hopefully some one will post it.

There are many knowledgeable people (way more than me) on this forum. If you don't get the answers you seek from this thread PM me and I will try to help you or send you to someone who can.

Have fun with your Puppy :)

sometimes peoples dogs dont to good on the best. i had a friends dog that origen a amazing food i wish i could afford to feed it but if i was going to pay the money for orijen i would just do raw. but my friends dog got super sick on it and they deemed it to just being too rich for the dog they droped her back down to like totw not sure i dont think it was that but could be and the dog did amazing.

its all about what works for your dogs

Jenni Von,

Once again, NO DOGS DIED. A VOLUNTARY recall due to SALMONELLA .... yes, this is OLD NEWS for this board, but people just LOVE to want to destroy certain entreprises no matter what. Clearly the article is about addressing the issues, too. You can't lump all recalls throughout the years into one big One Size Fits ALL.

Copied from your link:

Diamond Pet Foods, the company behind a massive recall of dry dog food due to Salmonella contamination that has sickened at least 16 people, was not taking "all reasonable precautions" to ensure the safety of its product, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspection report.

I feed Orijen LB puppy.

It's locally sourced, sustainably raised ingredients and an award winning factory. They won pet food of the year for three years straight, I think it was?

It was a bit rich for my pup at first, but she seems to be adjusting to it now. They also make Acana which is good too. Maybe check those out? Jenni recommended Fromm's Gold to me too, so maybe check that out too?

Good luck!

And I know a lot of people have had success with Diamond foods, but after all the recalls, I am staying away. I know it can happen, but it seems to be an excessive amount for one company. Also I think if they voluntarily do the recall then they can't be sued, so your family and pet's best interests may not have been what prompted the recall? I could be wrong on that though, so don't quote me. Anyway, if it's working for you and you're happy, then that's all that matters, I guess.

I fed Acana Wild Prairie-grain free to all my dogs from 8 weeks old to 6 years old
They all do great on it, good stools, soft shiny coat and they all love it!
It is made by the same company Orijen is from but lower protein, I think 31%.

as i posted on another thread......i got sick of trying to keep track of recalls and worrying about ingredients.  i've got 8 shepherds and 1 mastiff on orijen.  as long as i can afford to keep them on it, i will.
