She has been on chicken & rice for two days. It's reduced , but still exists. The stool samples came back negative.  She is now straining very hard and I'm noticing blood in the diarrhea. lt has has soem type of slime in it. We are off to the vet in 90 minutes. She is still very energetic and eats well.

Does it have a very distinct smell to it? No that dog poop smells good by any means but is it extra bad?
The slime screams Giardia to me and i just went through a 6 week ordeal with that.. Be aware that Giardia does not always show up in a fecal test. I had nine done and it should up 4 times only.

Hope you are able to fix her up:)

The pumpkin works miracles.  Works on dogs for whom rice and meat only do not work.

If your dog eats a grain free diet rice may go right through them. A good alternative for rice is to boil potatoes and mash them with the skin on. Still al bland starch but at least you dog is gettign some minerals from the skin. Rice is worthless.

I often give a few tablespoons of plain, unflavored yogurt, usually clears loose stool right up.

Poor baby.  Just curious, what meds did they put her on?  They gave Ryder flagyl.  He had to take it for what wound up being 4 weeks.  After 2 weeks he had diarrhea again so they put him back on.  After that he didn't have diarrhea anymore.  They never really said what it was that he had, guess they just really didn't know.  Maybe it was giarrdia.  Hope your pups are well soon.

My GSD and Poodle are negative for Giardia... They did a specific more expensive test. Now my GSD mix has diarrhea..What could this virus be?? The GSD and Poosle are doing better now with meds and chicken /rice diet'

Could  it have been just a stomache virus??

Tyr giving the dog just bio yoghurt (the kind with live cultures) for 24 hours, has worked wonders for me at times!
