OFA is a tool I use for all my dogs, I send all my dogs hip & elbow x-rays into OFA, if they say borderline or mild at OFA, based on past experience, they usually never ever reverse their decision, so if your female is coming into heat & you x-ray her and she has mild sublaxation, than hey, that's that.
I'm sure I could start to penn-hip everyone, or send x-rays to SV, but I have decided to post the    x-ray pictures on their pages, I am not hiding anything.
I have a son of Tessie's that is ofa good, I also have many dogs out there that are not experiencing joint problems.
No dog is a perfect whole, I understand, but at the same time I like to weigh the pro's and con's on each individual dog's health and what I could possibably have as an end result.

I stand behind my dogs 100% and look to improve my bloodlines the best I know how based on personal experience and knowledge of each individual dog I breed to.

So what were Tessie's hip scores? Borderline? Why would you x-ray a bitch around estrous?

Well I do appreciate your taking the time to explain, but to tell you the truth, I don't really get what you're saying.  On the one hand it sounds like you are implying borderline and mild OFA ratings are not correct since your dogs were in heat or that they are not correct ratings but OFA won't change their ratings once given, (not everyone would agree with that statement), yet  on the other hand you say  you weigh the pros and cons since no dog is a perfect health whole.

It just seems kind of an odd dychotomy also because  your contract prohibits customers from breeding the dogs they buy from you unless the dogs are certified free of dysplasia from OFA, while that's exactly what you are doing by breeding Tess, since neither her or her mother certified free of dysplasia by OFA .  Maybe that's not such a bad thing at all since most puppy buyers do not have the experience and have no business breeding dogs anyway!!

In any case, you seem like a very sincere person, who not only loves her dogs, but does her best to insure puppy buyers get healthy, happy puppies that will be great companions and both will have good lives together,  and in the end, that's all anyone can ask for.

I think she is a gorgeous big girl, love her pigment.  On OFA not changing their results once given, that is NOT correct. My best friend had a ch. male that PennHip'ed 100% (excellent) at 18 months old, so she went to have him OFA'ed at 2 yrs, and they FAILED him with mild HD!  Needless to say, my friend was absolutely shocked, and in disbelief since she saw how tight the hips were at 18  months.  So she waited a year, re-xrayed and submitted them again, and second time around he went OFA Excellent.  So you can't always go by that!!

Thank you all for taking the time to read my post.

I had a very strange delivery with Tessie's pups, I had many stillborn males that looked like they grew too big for the sacks they were in.

Every other pup was a stillborn.

I ended up with 4 very healthy active females.

This makes me think........WHY......WHY after having a normal litter with the same dog that it would be any different.

I did two things different this time when I bred Tessie & Theo, I let them mate if they wanted for a week, cause I was unsure of when Tessie's heat started, so I said why not, they both live here.
Usually it's mate 1 day, skip a day or 2 and mate again, that's that.

The second thing is I fed Tessie more than I normally would, but I admit that I over fed her a really good diet, she got quite big, I wanted her & the pups to be healthy.

I am wondering if letting her breed with Theo for the whole week could have caused some pups to be older than the others...........

OR>>could a bitch that is fed too good a diet produce overweight pups that take up too much space in the womb......

Here are the girls!!!! Two black & reds and two sables!

Awww- these girls are adorable! How heartbreaking about the males. That certainly sounds very strange. I don't see how letting them breed adlib could have anything to do with it....diet however??? I don't know that I've ever heard of diet doing that, but what do I know? I do know how much you care about your dogs, & how sad this must have made you. I send you hugs & best wishes, & prayers. I hope you can put this behind you, & enjoy those darling girls. Everything happens for a reason, whether we ever learn the reason or not. God bless you! jackie harris

My vet told me that letting them breed several days in a row can/will result in different "age" pups, since some of the eggs mature sooner than others.  And he also said that overfeeding the bitch can also make the pups too big/fat.  I'm sooo sorry for your puppy loss, however, but the living girls are beautiful, and congrats on them!  Take good care of them, and mom.

What did you overfeed her with? Any supplements?

How many were there total? I'm so sorry. Thankfully Tessie is ok and was able to deliver the stillborns w/no intervention.
