I repeat if you go by the rules of the SV you cannot do the AD UNLESS you have done the BH test first I know it to be correct i have done a few of them and Gina cannot do her AD until she does her BH in September then if i can find a Club doing the AD before the end of the year i will do it
Plus you cannot get a Dog Korung unless it has ScH1 and that includes bite work you have to do a bit of bite work to get the Korung no matter what some others may think here
You can however do a ScH1 or Sch2 tracking test before you go for the BH or AD this will go down in your work books, but still if you do a Sch1 you will have to do the tracking phase again on that day
Saying all this i do not know the Rules of you Guys in the USA i am quoting the rules we abide to over here in Belgium and Germany

The original post says smiley was asking about the AD for doing a few schutzhund titles I only thought BH was needed for schutzhund titles ???. AD only needed for Koerung but not schutzhund titles ?.

Steve,
It may be different in Belgium and Germany than here in the USA. Per our rule book you do not need a BH to compete in an AD. A dog merely must be 16 months or older but no older than 6 years. In heat females may not participate in AD nor can bitches in whelp or nursing. The AD is a pass/fail and not seen as a training degree but as a requirement for show and breed survey.
Also a handler can not show a dog beyond a BH until that handler has passed their *first* BH themselves, including the written test. A BH is also required before continuing with any phases of the SchH sport, even if titles sought are only TR and OB.

Not to be critical but the BH and AD are not titles ...................... the AD is not conducted if the temp is above 75 deg F .................. also the judge inspects the dogs over all condition on each rest stop and looks at the paws to make sure they are not rubbing raw ...

Thank you all for clarifying!
It looks like our first stop should be BH and then I can title in obedience and tracking (without protection)...if I read everyone's posts correctly!
And, I only need the AD if I want to get a breed survey, right?
Ok, thank you all for educating me as I am still learning about this stuff! :-)

I would like to add that the course fo the AD is dependent on the club that you are going to participate at. Meaning they decide where it will be done. I picked the location of our last AD and it was at the highschool track - cork track..........Dog does have to get use to that just like pavement.........
You do have breaks at several mile markers in the 12.5 miles. Rest and water. Judge checks your dogs pad and condition during the AD.
You can go from 7 to 9 miles an hour. It is up to you and your dog. USA rules state a bike. It doesn't state that it cant be electric........lol - but behind a car---------come on! I think if you can run with them - then more power to you............
I personally got great reward on training for the AD with my dog. My boy is big - and I found him a bit slower than the little females that were in the AD with us. We went at our pace..... The females were at least 30 pounds lighter than my boy.........But he jogged along and I sang.....Gosh I had a good time - but I am glad the 12.5 miles is behind me.......
I would challenge anybody to do the AD........no BH required in USA..............
Best Regards

I agree with YogiBear. It was a very fun experience for me and my girl too, though we we're on bumpy uneven grass, dirt and gravel which was a bit uncomfortable for me... we had trained on nice paved trails and sidewalks.
Also, here in the states you certainly do not need a BH before the AD, as I didn't have it before my AD. I know it is not considered a title, but I am proud of our accomplishment. :-)
Best of luck to you!

Sheesh - I consider the AD an accomplishment - some might not feel it a title - but not everybody has an AD on their dog.... and not all can say they did the AD with their dog........... 12.5 miles is a long way for some of the fat asses in schtuzhund here in the states......lol.......me included.........
If you can - do the AD.......but make sure you condition yourself and your dog..... Best of luck........

Quoted "You can do the obedience and tracking portions of Schutzhund and not bitework. You will get titles in only those areas.
In what country can you get a Schutzhund 1 without completing all three phases? A Schutzhund 1 here is only attainable with a passing score in all three phases. Nope no BH required for our AD either. Thank heavens as it is a breed requirement I just want out of the way so I can move on to the fun stuff......
