Vonissk hit the nail on the head.  look on ebay, search the web find a used one.  I buy new ones for the grooming shop for around 120.00 They would be well worth the investment if you consider your pooch will be around 10 plus years :) or just take them to a groomer and get you pup blown out in the spring.  35 bucks to do a shepherd here and maybe less if you went to petco or petsmart?

Thanks guys.

If you would vonissk send me that link please.....

I would take him to a place like that, but hes a rambunctious one lol, and i see the irritation on some peoples faces so i dont want to make their job harder...plus i like bonding with him that way lol

What will i be missing from a greyhound comb that i wont get from a curry comb?

Because i was thinking of using the curry comb to loosen the hair and then the dryer to blow it out?

Is that a good plan of attack for all this fur lol

No need for clean up, id just do it in the yard and let the wind take it where it may lol

TheOne....there is a new brush thats just like desheder except tips are curled (same area in the store)...and its half the price of the furminator I paid $19.99 (all brushes are the same size and same price the only difference short vs long hair), i bought it at Pets Smart however i can't seem to find it online to show a picture of it...it is a brand new product and I love it...curled teeth prevent contact with skin yet takes out under coat perfectly ..i used it on all dogs and a cat...no issues so far...

The One, sent you a PM with the link. Now to answer your question about currycomb vs comb..............I stick the dryer down to the skin and just start rotating it around and I usually use a slicker brush, and brush  backwards to help loosen the hair. If you use a slicker do not dig it in too deep as you can brushburn the skin. Then I sort of use the comb for finishing.  Now if they are actively shedding and the hair is already loose I only use the comb because I can get more hair out and get to the skin without a chance of irritating their skin. Also when you first start out, especially with a dog that hasn't been raised around a dryer, start with the rear and work your way to the front. Those little metro dryers come with 1 and 2 speeds--I advise you to get a 2 speed. It really is more economical to just lay out money one time then to keep taking them to a shop.  Keep the filter clean and they will last forever.............

Vonissk - can you send me the link, too? I'd happily pay $60 for a dryer.

Sorry for throwing a spanner in the works (English expression) - but you are sure this is definitely connected to the choice of grooming product, and your dog does not have some kind of skin problem that is irrelevant to which brush or comb???

It is so easy to assume one thing, only to discover it is something else.

its not a skin problem because i actually saw fresh patch of skin taken off while using the furminator in a spot i checked before that was good, then after brushing i checked and low a behold....Not to mention since i started seein these things i pretty much stopped brushing him, and that will also cause scabs etc to from because the skin doesnt have a chance to breathe because of all the excess hair built up around it....No other places on his body has things like i described...just certain parts where the brush would go over him in an awkard way, then when i would re brush that area and i would push down a little harder....you can see the bad cycle starting to form here....

OK here is the link--sorry I didn't think about posting it earlier.

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Dogshowstuff/

Anything you want--other than crafty type stuff or prescription meds-you can find on this list eventually. Grooming supplies, crates, tables, collars, leads, books, dvds, videos, show vehicles, collectibles, magazines, ScH equipment--also it's not talking or discussions on there or advertising dogs in any way.  If you don't find it at first just hang on and it will eventually pass through. Also you can post on there things you are looking for.  It's a great place--I've bought many nice things off there not just my dryer.

Also wanted to add don't let the name dogshowstuff fool you because there are so many other things on there.  Anything related to dogs--I've seen agility equipment, kennel panels, flyball boxes, rally signs....like I described it before, a perpetual doggy garage sale and put on by all sorts of different dog people.
