A lot of breeders I know, start before you even get the puppy.  Tug work, obedience, and tracking.  Its all stuff that starts ASAP.  The sooner you start, the better off you'll be.

I follow a certain creed, it's better to do no training than bad training.  Find the club that your happy with first and then bring the puppy.  Go now if you can and introduce yourself that way you won't be as nervous after she comes.  I'm assuming you're getting her @8 weeks?  If so, let her settle in with you for a couple of weeks, get her set with her new diet, make sure stools are good and she feels comfortable.  Get her finished with her puppy shots and take stool samples in and get her checked for worms and parasites.  Once she has a basic bond with you and she's healthy and used to the leash, take her and have fun.

Based on my research, there are no Schuz clubs near me at all. So, the question is should I take her to a nearby trainer who does a lot of work with police dogs and is what he will teach her similar to the obedience aspect of Schuz? Thanks, Frogman

No.  What do you mean by no SchH clubs near you?

Based on my research so far I can't find any SchH very close to me that is why I was asking about a trainer. Is SchH something that I would practice on my own with her and go to a meet or whatever the get together is called to measure her performance on a regular basis? Please pardon my ignorance on this. What do you mean by "close"?  People are lucky if they drive under 2 hours one way for a good SchH club.

Do whatever you want with her.  If you want to do the puppy kindergarten, go ahead.  I do puppy classes with my Schutzhund dogs.

I found a club that meets about 1/2 hour away, twice a week. They said training begins as soon as I get the puppy, does this sound about right? Frogman

Sounds spot on and 1/2 is excellent distance!

Lucky duck...you only get to travel 30 minutes.  wink Enjoy that puppy!  Schutzhund is a lot of fun, glad you found a close club.
