sometimes it is best for the dog and you have to deal with it to smell like a dog as it is one lol

we live in "duck itch" land.  In the summer the dogs must be bathed every single time they hit a pond.  Never had a problem bathing them even when some weeks they are bathed every single day.  I use nature specialties shampoo, the hypo allergenic one. Most people dont bath this often of course but we have to or we would have very very sick itchy dogs :)

Am. s/l GSD get bathed and blown dry before every show. 4 day show = 4 bathings. Every once in a while, it may be just a wet down and blow dry.

TIFWIW, but I've never seen one with a poor coat from this practice.

IMO once a month is good. My only issue that the brush doesnt get everything clean, one of my puppy's is a silver sable and if he goes and plays in the dirt, and you can really tell he played in the dirt lol, and no brush will get him back to his clean color. I found moisturizing coat puppy/dog wipes for the in between bath time. The brushing it out works on the darker puppy though :)

Also the shampoo you use can change how long your dog is clean and smelling good. The one I use keeps a dog for over a month smelling wonderful and also allows the hair to repel dirt staining.
