I have 4 cats with the GSDs. Everyone gets along. The cats love to groom the dogs, especially their ears(?). The dogs have helped raise several kittens, who never seemed to realize that they could have easily been a quick snack.  The cats seem to respect my older female, who has a very strong prey drive. They'll hang with her until she gets "the look" and then they find higher ground.

is it female gsds that will get maternal with cats and treat them like puppy?

I would like my next working gsd to love cats wow that would make life a lot better

I HATE WHEN brreeders tell me "well like all dogs u just need to train the dog the dog itself does not matter"

BIGGEST BULLSHIT ever the DOG DOES MATTER

I HAVE MET DOGS THAT WILL RESPECT CATS JUST CAUSE THEY ARE FORCED TO BUT ALWAYS WOULD LOVE TO KILL ThEM

it rEALLY IS THE DOG some dogs will never be trust worthy around cats and some dogs will be

so now i ask which dog would i want? one that will always be a constant struggle or one that will like them right off the bat like some of the above females?

With my female yes...but she had a litter before we got the kitten.  Not sure how it would be with a maiden female...nor could you generally say yes or no for all females.

When we brought home the kitten, I was hoping she would take it like a pup...because if she didn't...well I would have worried alot for it's safety.  The kitten tried to suckle and she started cleaning it...I was glad for that, but she did guard the kitten from the other dogs, so that was somewhat of an issue for a while.

I did not leave them unsupervised together for months.  My bitch and older male took to the kitten pretty quick.  Our other male needed alot more supervised sessions...he had a tendency to get too excited when it moved quick.  He still gets a bit excited but doesn't hurt him...pins and nibbles at him...and stops when we yell at him, cat thinks he's a dog so gets along well with them.

My bitch is a maiden bitch and always will be as she's spayed but she has always shown a maternal instinct towards babies.  She alerts and 'talks' if she hears a puppy cry and when the kittens came (they were so tiny only ounces each) she lay by the door (they were in one room with the door closed) and just talked under the door for hours to them.

pins and nibbles at him...and stops when we yell at him

Yep, that's exactly what my young male tries to do with the kittens.   But 80lb male GSD vs 6lb kitten is sort of a pitcher/stone relationship.

a dog good with cats or a dog that likes them will make your life and your pets lives less stressful and more happy
