I have multiple outlooks on this subject.

I personally will not spay neuter any animal unless for a critical medical reason! I have for the same reason someone mentioned here. I had a white shepherd that was a uni i had altered for the risk of cancer. But he has been the only dog I have owned that I had altered.

However I am pro spay and neuter once an animal has reached its sexual maturity. because of the growing neglegance of owners, wanna be breeders, etc.... i encourage pet owners and those whom are not educated in breeding to alter there animals post maturity.

I am however against all the BS reasons for altering and animal, such as it makes dogs easier to handle, etc......( the list is long but in the interest of time i will leave it at one) its a big money racket for vets. especially considering some of the astrinomical fees some vets charge.

I think it is the owners responsibility to maintain their animal and not allow it to procreate in an undesirable fashion. It is part of the the responsibility when you take on an animal. I would rather be put down than for you to cut my balls off so why should I force my dog to have his cut off. I think if a dog could talk he would say the same thing.

But isn't it nice that you still have a voice and a choice and we can respectfully disagree? Thank you for that!

GSDtravels,
Thankyou, and I completely agree 100%. My fence isn't a barrier to prevent civil discussion, it just keeps my dogs out of hte neighbor's yard. ^_^ I have my opinions, but they're in now way the gospel according to Dog. I like how you present yourself as well. Too bad some tend to mudslinging around here.

Yoshy,
I don't think my dogs would even notice they're miss anything... but when in doubt there's always Neuticles! Peace of mind for pet and owner. Lol.

FUNNY THING MIGHT BE I AM A GUY....

Another option to neutering is to have a vasectomy.

I neutered by 5 year old male at 6 months.  He is leggy, but he has a sibling kept intact who is also leggy.  I wish I had kept him intact for much longer (if ever!) in hindsight due to sex charateristics.  He is quite fit, fast, and fun and we are going for our Sch2.

My 7 month old male will not be neutered or given a vasectomy until he is at least three.  He is cryptorchid at some point  I will have to get it taken out, I will likely have a vasectomy on the other one.  Apparently in this part of the US, Neutering/altering both balls is seen as the only option for cryptorchid for reasons I don't get.  They say its UNETHICAL to keep a dog with one testes.  I have NO intention of breeding ever! I have found a vet who will remove the ball and do a vasectomy on the normal testes as a compromise
