Phil Behun

by Phil Behun on 30 March 2010 - 21:03

Ken is a good dog man and a good friend.  In fact now that you mention it, he called me a couple of weeks ago and I have forgotten to call him back, thanks for the unintentional reminder.  Ken placed 3rd at the 2004 North American Championships with his dog Xenon and made the FCI Team that year, the year the French canceled the event because of a rabies problem with a pet from Morocco that crossed the border and all non-French dogs had to leave the country.  Very nice though to not tell the visiting teams or their captains until people had flown over at their own expense.  Your dog couldn't be in a better place, Ken treats his dogs very well.

Lets say Johaness Grewe CONTINUED to show the dog in protection even though it was injured from the obedience. THAN he would be in the wrong for jeopardizing the safetiness and health of his dog so what BG stout wrote is right. It is sportsmanship. Mike 33 should not say any longer.

I was hoping that someone could explain why some of the protection scores are so surprisingly low.

What score were suprising?

by KathyMo on 31 March 2010 - 03:03

Most of the low protection scores were due to lack of control in the work.  One dog was chased after the long bite.

Wish I could answer the question about Ken Hashimoto's scores. I can't seem to remember what happened. Sorry.

Oh, and I should add that Herr Mannes' pencil was sharpened between dogs  ;)

Thanks, Phil. I liked Ken very much when I met him. When you call him, ask him what the heck his scores were! Or I could email him, I suppose!

Aw, I just had a lovely note from Ken. Great guy. Thanks, Phil!!!

Regarding tracking, Ken & Buck were in the last flight on Saturday.  By the time that flight went out in the afternoon, the wind was blowing 30 steady with gusts of 50, and it was really hot, zero humidity.  The field used  for that flight was comprised of dirt with clods the size of your fist, that didn't break apart when you stepped on them either. Out of that entire  flight, only 2 passed.  Ken and Buck scored 85, phenomenal considering the conditions.

Regarding Johannes' Obedience, if I am recalling correctly, his dog did get hurt going up the wall,  he retrieved the dumbbell and came back over the other side, though it took a couple of tries for him to climb back over.

There was no wind on Sunday and it even felt a tad bit cooler, so the flights that tracked on Sunday caught a lucky break.

I think Ken and Buck totally rock.

I also think every single competitor who had the guts to step out onto that field rocked.
