I agree with you, that testing should be done for eyes & EIC/CNM, I do test eyes, I just haven't cerf'd them, even if you do the optigen eye test for PRA, you still need to do a yearly eye test.
We are lucky to be able to check through DNA,
Again, sorry for my lame remark,
Paula

Starwave,
My 6 month old pup Rollie has Pano in his left leg, and last night he was crying so much he woke everyone up,
I gave him Buffrin asprin 325 mgs and it worked very well,
and it is also good to limit his exercise,
hope your dog gets feeling better soon,
Paula
This is Rollie on the left,, his leg hurt so bad he was holding it up a bit...he is the first dog that I have ever owned that had pano,
and I've owned many gsd's in my life, but he is feeling better, so I guess it's a wait & see thing...

mentioned above about getting xrays done. its vital that you do and try to make sure the vet knows what they are doing. i had a young bitch of the same age misdiagnosed with pano turned out to have a fracture of the coronoid process and un-united anconeal process. if you get a ortho vet to consult it may make a huge difference to your dog's future.
try to speak to Fred Lanting if you can or get his orthopaedic book. Try to keep your dog lean whilst they go through the worst of it if it's just pano.
good luck

and then I had 2 related dogs that had it. the male much worse than the female. His hit the first time at about 7 months of age, last about 2 weeks, again at 15 months of age-worse than the first time altering front legs, lasted about a month, then again at about 18-19 months and lasted for another month and limped terribly. put him on some aspirin to help with the pain and let him exercise as much as he wanted, but since he was so painful, he really limited his exercise and made no attempts at running, I had also cut his food back to slow his growth at the 7 months and he still went through it and worse the next couple of times. The female just went through it at about 8 months and lasted a couple of weeks and never appeared again on her.
Has anyone dealt with hairline fractures with their dogs that had pano?
Mirasmom,- Rolli is a Handsom boy.

Thank-You Weezy,
I may actually get an x-ray on Rollie, cause he seems to be in a lot of pain, and we do have very large holes in the yard here & there that he and the other dogs have dug!
Just want to rule out the possibility of a fracture.
