As for me, Ann Arbor in Nov, not good.
Alfalfa, particularly in Nov. not good. (V'd one & only time we tracked in alfalfa, but that was in September. Most of us do not have access to alfalfa fields for training.)
Protection under lights, not good. I don't know how many people have access to a lighted football stadium for training, but I don't.
Practice starting Sunday, mixed feelings. It gives an advantage to competitors who can take the whole week and afford the extra hotel expense. Yes, the extra practice is comforting, but this is the Nationals. This year we had 6 min obedience Wed, 6 min protection Thurs. Dogs who were prepared did the go-out and ran the blinds. Even with the bizarre grass pattern and lack of landmarks for the center line. And, oh yes, the blinds were not set up for the trial as they were for practice.

Sch Village "HERE'S A THOUGHT"! How about knowing what you are talking about before you post. Brent Eckler, the guy endorsing the venue, competed in this years Nationals. When the nationals were held this year the weather in Ann Arbor was around 60 degrees. Actually perfect working weather for the dogs.
Working under lights, it's been done for many championships in the past. Don't like Alfalfa in November? Your next statement clears that up. YOU don't have availability too alfalfa.
As for practice time. Which don't you like? Not enough time or too much time?
Lack of landmarks for center line and blinds at THIS years Nationals has what to do with next years Nationals in Michigan?
SCH Village "HERE'S A THOUGHT" why don't YOU plan and host the Nationals that way you can have it in your own backyard that way it will be great for you? I think that's the only way you'll be happy.
I think Brent's put a lot of time and thought into this. The fact of the matter is that it won't be you who gives the OK on the venue. Those that have the say in where the Nationals will be held next year will look at ALL those willing to host the venue and pick whichever one they feel will be the best for all involved.

As to lights and tracking surface, I think that a venue ought to provide as level a playing field as possible for people from every corner of our (rather large) country.
As to practice time, "mixed feelings" means just that. I don't really care. Just pointing out that there are pros & cons to having 5 days of practice available. And that at a National Championship, teams can deal with some restrictions. After all, DVG doesn't even permit protection practice on the field at a championship.
And the fact is, I was quite happy with national events in TX, OH, PA, AL, and IA. And probably some I've forgotten.
Best for ALL involved. Exactly.
