If you look at the classic youtube film of a GSD gaiting (www.youtube.com/watch ) you can clearly see that the dogs rear right foot moves to the inside of the front right & the rear left moves to the outside of the front left. I understood this was achieved, and permitted within the conformation structure, by having the v.slight offset.
During miles of walking the hound I've also noticed such a slight offset when trotting (at a fast pace) that can change from v.slightly left to v.slightly right in an instance whilst still maintaining a straight line. Agreed, noticeable 'crabbing' does indicate some form of structural imbalance.
Thoughts?

hi Shultz Anna,
Kioanes got it right ,Its called crabbing,
I believe this has got to do , with the proportion of the dog. You mentioned thjat your dog is one year old . Lets hope it grows longer in body. Then your problem may be solved.
