Good Morning Steve,
There were some excellent posts on here. I will be sending you a pm....
Mollyand jack gave me some hope posting the bitch that was competing and doing so well.
The best part for us is that we are now in a club with members who are willing to help us train our pup from the start, which we did not have when we brought Galan home. So we already will have a good start in life with her.
I made too many mistakes in puppyhood with Galan, as I already told you privately. I am working twice as hard now, and having to retrain and re-teach, a lot harder than if I had known the proper way to raise him. (For those who don't know, I only taught him sit, down, stay and fetch.) Now he drags me me all around on the leash and won't listen to the sit at home. Stuff like that, hehehe
You already know I am pulling for you and Izzy bitch :-)

I think another reason is that often people just get the SchH 1 on a female and then breed her. They just don't bother going on. Although in the few years I've been watching it seems there are more good ones out there getting the SchH 3, so maybe this is changing. I still think it's a big reason, though - people get the SchH 1 on a bitch and then breed her.
Anyway, with time out for heat cycles and time off for breeding and raising puppies, females spend more time out of training than males.
Also agree that the size and "presence" of males can be more impressive and people want to have that on the field and not a female so much. But I've seen Jabina Dighte (out of another great bitch, Jabina Frigge) and videos of Noditha vom Teufelsgrund, and I think they're both fantastic.

I just got my bh on my female -full blown heat - I am not at a national level - never will be - i have high hopes-though... I went dead last after it was all over and the female that went with me obtained her bh and she was in heat as well....
If she had been acting crazy though - I would have pulled her. But I think she is more clingy to me when she is in heat than when not..go figure...

Thanks Tess,
I appreciate your input. I looked the females titles over pretty hard when I got my first boy. I wanted to see hardworking females in there...I bet there MUST be a lot of females who are SchH I who could easily be a III, but I can see now that the breedings may take a lot out of them. The dam to my future female got her titles before being bred. I really respect the breeder for recognizing her potential and taking her to it.
Happyday,
Congratulations on your BH! I am of the same thoughts as you with my male...We may never make nationals (or regionals), but that doesn't mean I won't work my butt off to at least make an effort. And believe me we are working hard. I wish you the best with your female!

My club's training director trials her female malinois bitch with success. She was the highest scoring SchH III dog at the Mid-Central Regional Championships this yaear but that region requires the regional champion to be from the region so technically she is not the "regional champion" (and her GSD male was the 2nd highest scoring SchH III dog as well).
She was also the PNW regional champion (2007 if I recall correctly) and has competed at the AWDF garnering High Malinois Bitch, High Female team (handler and dog both female) and tied in overall score for the high bitch trophy but another team had a higher protection score so they took it home.
She is also the dam of a dog that has placed in the top five of national level competitions on multiple occasions.

Psycht,
Thanks for that! Exactly what kind of info I am looking for. Congratulations to your director, it sounds like she has some excellent dogs and is a dedicated trainer. You are lucky to have her as your TD :-)

Glad to be of a help. Not only is she a great trainer and friend but she is a tremendous artist:

"I looked the females titles over pretty hard when I got my first boy. I wanted to see hardworking females in there..."
Very smart of you to look for strong female lines.
"I bet there MUST be a lot of females who are SchH I who could easily be a III, but I can see now that the breedings may take a lot out of them. "
I agree that I bet there are indeed a lot of females who can easily get their III but never do.
To clarify what I said before: I don't think that the breedings take a lot out of a strong female. I don't think that's why they don't get their SchH3's. I think it's that the OWNERS don't put in the time to recondition and retrain the girls once they're in brood bitch mode. Plus if they keep back puppies they're probably working them - on to the next generation!

Hey Tess,
I missed this last post you made. Thanks for replying. The female we are getting in November is the only female in her litter and her mother is an excellent Schutzhund bitch. Her sire is also producing some very nice dogs. Everyone says a puppy is a gamble, but I like the odds a whole lot better when the dam has been brought to her potential :-)
Thanks again
