If you truly want something to build on, then you need to choose the individul. Not the pedigree, not the sire or the dam. These are important, but in the long run, it is the pup that you will be spending the next several years with. It is no fun to have that "dream" pup turn into a 2 y.o. that doesn't come close to what your orginal expectations were.
You need to be patient, very honest with yourself and your ability to choose a pup. If you can't, then do you trust the breeder to choose for you. Do you know someone able to help. Or are you willing to just send a check and accept what ever comes out of the crate.
Best,
Rik

This is weird - I'm getting first boy from Zasko x Hetty and I was convinced for some reasons that the litter was only going to have one boy (boy, was I wrong).
So what did you end up deciding?

I know someone who has bred GSD's for 30 years. If you were his customer he would give you his opinion as the to structure of the puppy even as early as 5 weeks (is the puppy built to do what you need it to do), he would show you the results of the temperment test at 7 weeks (willingness to please, prey drive, confidence etc...). And then he would help you decide if indeed the pup that would best fit your needs. If not, he would go to the next person on the list. Keep in mind, he is a very honest person who only sells to local people and knows he will sell the puppy one way or the other and would rather you get the dog that you are going to be happy with than talk you into something that isn't going to fit your needs. But, as said before, it is a gamble, as there are no guarentees. Just because she was the only female may not mean it is meant to be. Hate to be a downer.
So, advice on structure and a good temperment test could be a pre-requisite for taking that puppy.

That is weird Jason! I am getting the one female. Where are you from? You can pm me if you like.
I talked to a friend over there in Belgium who knows both Zasko and Hetty personally and has seen them work, and has also seen what Zasko is producing.
It was a hard decision on this female, Rik. If I were to get a puppy from the litter with 3 in it, I would have trusted my breeder to choose the right fit for me. My breeder did choose the male for me that I have now and I am very pleased with him. That was why I went back to him for a second pup. You are SO right about the patience and honesty. I got a few opinions before I decided, but ultimately, everyone told me I had to decide myself.
When I first came to this site in hopes of getting a GSD, I had a bunch of folks tell me "let the breeder choose!" I had my feelings hurt, but I did it. and don't for a minute regret it :-)
And Shelley, I almost did flip a coin. LOL, almost.
svbc1, Once I decided on it I felt confident. Now hopefully I can raise her up to be a nice representative of that breeding.
Thanks again all for your input. I will post a picture as soon as I have one.

Plus i am in the same Clubs as the breeder,
Zasko is everything you want to see and watch in a Dog his progeny is getting titles over here in Belgium, Germany etc plus the USA they are going great,
He is a one man Dog and in a recent trial over here he is of not course trained regular now but he was jumped in the competition at the last minute because one dog was unfit to compete of another Guy so Zasko's owner put him in to help out
He was highrest score in Protection this was a competition of Obed and Protection,
Zasko went in the Protection phase and was the top dog with a score of 96 and that without practise,
He is a born worker and a Pro at what he does,
Hetty is a very fast female with a hard bite, but stays calm under pressure, This is a good mating on the temprament of the Dogs and the way they work and the doubling up regards Pedigree,
Zender needs no introduction, the female he is bred with is beautifully bred but i do not know much about her i have seen her but not working, thats about it
A hard Choice to make both very well thought out breedings, the Choice is Stacy's One only female from Zasko could be an omen,
Steve
