73 lbs for a 1.5 yr old male sounds good, he has energy and is working for you. I guess you could go up to five cups if you are worried, being fit is a good thing. I like dry kibble, canidae is a good dog food. Did you say his stools are normal.  What are you doing with him.
Always,

I just recieved my first GSD/Working Line puppy 11 weeks). Just so you know this info is coming from our training director from the club that I joined. He has been training working dogs for 30 years. I was told from the begining to feed raw, kibble, no matter the best , most expensive brand is still junk. I feed him Nature's Variety Raw Chicken Chub (frozen). I will say it is not cheap, but I use a 4 oz piece of chub (three time a day) I get 8 pieces out of 1 chub, then add other stuff to go with it, such as fruits and  veggie's from our garden. Carrots, Lettuce, Squash, Chicken Eggs (we have chickens), Blueberries, yogurt etc.. I will also throw in a chicken wing (small bone) a few times a week. All of this is already in the chub, but use the extra to make the chub go longer. If we had an older dog that could chew up larger chicken bones, thights and backs, we would not be using the chub and just go with raw chicken and the rest of the added stuff. The stuff from our garden is really cost effective and when the pup gets his adult teeth, we will make the change. Buying a 40 lb box of chicken backs cost around 28-30.00, butchers can get them.

IMO raw is better because of a few reason, the biggest reason is NO fillers like you find in kibble. Second, the stools will be much smaller and firm as the dog uses more of the raw diet and "wastes" out  less and raw is beter for their digestive system. Thrid, it's just better for the dog. I see both dogs, ones fed raw and ones feed kibble and the ones feed raw just look better, never overweight, beautiful coats, white teeth, clear eyes and just overall better health. Of course this is my opinion but I see it in my own dog as well as others.

Your dog looks good to me, although the long coat could be a little deceptive as it pertains to weight. I will tell you that almost every dog at my club is slim and you can see some ribs. 73 LBS for a 1 1/2 year old male does seem light, but he could be a meduim size male and has time to fill out, I wouldn't worry.
