I find it very interesting that you point out our Ronaldo Arlett aka Quinto (as he has been known to his breeder, us, and the people who owned and raised him before us, the Maibüchens) now but never said a word before in all these years. When my husband imported him as a young dog after Holger Köhnke titled him for us 6 years ago, everybody was very complimentary about him and his genetic potential and sent all these sweet emails and messages. But except for two people, no one put their actions where their mouths were. Quinto is all what you say and more. His pedigree is awsome and to this day, I do not understand that people did not take more advantage of him. But this is their loss, not ours. When we breed or import a dog, pedigree is everything for us (as Walter Martin once said: The blood is the important factor, better to breed with the worse puppy from an excellent litter than to use an excellent dog with nothing behind it). As far as we know, Quinto now lives with one of our old homebred sable girls (Winni vom Silbersee) in a nice retirement home as a house dog in Northern Virginia. At least, that is what Randy (Dog 1) had told us who had purchased him from us. Like us, Randy is a fan of sable showlines and wanted to use Quinto for his breeding program which is a lot more extensive than ours. We only own a handful of dogs and breed one to two litters a year, if now even that.
Windwalker,
my litter out of VA-Shicco von der Freiheit Westerholt is due next week and we expect most if not all puppies to be sable. However, my homebred girl is not a sable workingline but a showline, out of the above mentioned Ronald von Arlett and our old Vila vom Haus Dexel (who is also enjoying retirement in one of my good friend#s house). Penny is a "double sable", both her parents are. Chances are good that she might even be a homozygous one but we can't be sure until we breed her to more than one male. Penny is very well bred with a great "open" pedigree: www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/537160.html

Over the years I've asked the judges about the color and if it made a difference to them. The answer has consistently been; it's not the color but the structure. There's not that many sables out there that can produce the structure. They tend to come from either Champ or Timo. The sables are limited by the small number of dogs alive that can produce a top specimen rather than the color.
AKC? Not sure but they seem to be accepted. Look for at least one sable at an AKC show on the east coast this year.
Speaking of Ronaldo Arlett, Louise is right, one excellent male. Look at the wonderful pedigree with Kliff and a super producing mother. Ronaldo is retired now but the Veteran's class is back at the sieger show. We're hoping to have him with his new family's son showing him and two of his offspring entered. I'm getting the paperwork together now. Expect to see more sables in the ring and on the field this year.
We're also putting together a progeny group for Waiko. He has 8 litters on the ground now. We're looking for show homes for the puppies and are willing to support them along the way. We're hoping the highest placing sable in the world can be the first sable in the US to go VA. We'll need help and are looking for it. As we have seen it now takes progeny to accomplish this. Just PM me if you're interested.

I enjoyed watching Waiko last fall, he's one of those dogs that is bigger then life. When he comes out, its like he knows he's the most important dog around. What confidence!

Many excellent studs come to this country and don't get used enough. One great dog in my area comes immediately to mind. I think many breeders want to promote their own stud dogs. I'm happy to not have one and take advantage of everyone else's. ;)
Are they any titled, koered, Timo sons or grandsons in the US or Canada?

I choose dogs for show in what I think will win, not color. But I do love the sable.
As far as I am concerned, there are only a couple breeders of the sable in North America able to produce winning dogs. Randy Brent, and the guy in Canada whose name escapes me. Yullia has a very good chance with her bitch.
