The VERY BEST breeders breed dogs for THEMSELVES and offer the surplus to the public.

The problem I see with "breeding for money" (i.e., not breeding to keep pups for yourself from the litter) is that you want/need to sell EVERY PUP from the litter to make $$.  This is not ethical in my book.

There are going to be pups born that are not up to par. That is if your "par" is a high standard. I have my pups professionally evaluated at 8 weeks and start my culling process there. Yes, not everyone agrees with culling (be it euthanazia or altering and selling as pets) but you really can't be a top notch breeder if you think to yourself that every litter is "perfect".

I cull my litters heavily to produce the best pups I can (because we don't need more dogs, just better dogs) and if I have any left after I chose the ones I am keeping I will offer them free of charge to sports friends.  Expensive? You bet, I do health checks and title my dogs.

There is a local GSD kennel here that have 3 to 6 litters available at all times. They sell all their puppies for over $2000 each.  I wouldn't trade places with them for all the money they make because I would know I was a puppy peddler and not doing the best by the dogs or my customers.

I think it is awesome that you are giving consideration to how much time is spent with each pup! Good on yah!
