Newbie, I understand perfectly what you're saying, and it's precisely what I alluded to in my first post.

Having said that, the lack of knowledge (or perceived- we really don't know what these dogs are) is the problem and not the actual circumstances.

I would like to know who set this "golden rule" that 2 is the magic age for breeding. Seriously, where does it say that and what is "robbed" from a dam who is shy of her 2nd birthday? I'm not condoning breeding bitches on their first heat, but I do like to make sure facts are considered instead of just jumping to the knee-jerk accepted "norms" when we criticize people.

Just trying to point out that the reasoning and planning, or LACK of reasoning and planning is the real issue, not the particulars.

Like Christine said, the bitch is telling them she needs a break, so give her a break. We can make our recommendations and even do some name calling and finger-pointing, but I think it's more in the dog's best interest to be helpful and educational. JMO (and I'm not saying you weren't, Newbie, just being general.)

I never bred the two females I did breed before the age of three. But my point was it being the first heat or were they matured?

Would you breed a one year old? I would not....

always skip one heat after breeding
JMO
since u bred her 3 times in a row u might want to skip her next 2 heats

A one year old of what breed? I guess I would, if you call a 22 or 23 month old "one" as she is not yet 2. See my point? We don't know much based on what's written. We can assume, and we may be right about a lot of it, but we don't know.

been sitting on my hands on this one, but have to ask. what was the purpose of breeding 3 times in a row. spectacular dogs for work or sport or show.

or is it that you are in a market that produces a little income with an ad in the paper. are your dogs titled, breed surveyed, h/e certified.

it is absurd for anyone who needs to ask a question like this to be breeding dogs. how many of these "cuties" will end up as shelter bait.

Rik, that was already stated. There was no purpose. They simply did nothing to stop it, ie, never bothered to separate them.

That's my issue with the whole thing; there was no forethought.

jenn, everyday there are people on here spending their own finances, time and energy trying to rescue GSD from across the country because that is where their heart is.

99% of these dogs are there because of irresponsible breeding. they are so cute, I can get $75.00 ea. for 10 pups. run the ad.

I have reached a point in my life where I am determined to see what is good or at least what is humorous. There is neither good nor humorous in this.

I didn't read the whole thread, so I did not know it had been covered.

best,
Rik

If I'm wrong I apologize ahead of time, but this post smells of fish and you guys took the bait.

geez Felloffer, you are probably right.

I'm usually pretty good at sniffing bait and swimming away, but this one made me boil I'll be more careful in the future.
