Perhaps some of you Guys in the USA can tell me this. Do you rate a Dog that has won the GSDCA awards of Award of Excellence
and the Award of Merit. Yet a great deal of you Guys do not rate IPO performances.
But i see that to obtain these awards a Dog which say has earned its IPO1 11 or 111, plus the same Dog who has say an SG or V in Show. has passed its AD, has taken a Social Test, Has been Korung KKL, In these tests its temperament has been tested It can Track? so what would this dog be awarded according to the rules of the GSDCA. would it be eliable for one or both of the Two above awards or if not what award in the eyes of the GSDCA organization.

Hi Steve, I'm not positive what you are asking so if I give you an unsatisfactory response, ask again.

The GSDCA now recognizes German titles when they determine which dogs are eligible for their performance awards. If you looked at the past recipients, you saw that there are very few Sch, KKL1 GSD's with any of these awards. The GSDCA also gives credit for an AKC CH that has attained a BH and/or an AD. Thus there are a few AKC CH with Dual Awards that have qualified by earning German titles and AKC titles.

AKC doesn't recognize Sch/IPO titles by allowing them to be listed in all breed show catalogs, but the GSDCA has decided that those titles can be listed in the catalogs for independent specialties and the National Specialty.

Also if you buy a certified pedigree from AKC they don't put the German titles on there. I think it's cool the GSDCA puts it in their catalogs.................Nice explanation by the way.......

do you get different colored pedigrees (eg. pink) in the US by the AKC? Or are they all the same?

by Gustav on 24 July 2013 - 18:07

@Joanro.....there are some posters on this forum you just go back and forth with once and if they insist you let them go on. You have forgot more about this breed in terms of correct temperament and quality dogs than many of the Internet experts. You have titled a dog in IPO from scratch, why argue with someone about the German way. It is good for them....fine, I like the Czech/Slovak mentality about breeding more, I like Sweden's approach to the breed, I like breeders in Holland, Belgium, and Germany on individual basis. There are also some super breeders in the US......Patalia, Wildhaus, Diehl, Harves, Lisa Clark, Sue and Gabor, Carmspack, and YOU!........and I could go on and on. So you don't need to argue with theorists.....you are the real deal.

Gus all the AKC ones I have seen are one color...............

AKC gives purple for full registration and orange for limited.  That's it

Xeph he was asking did the AKC certified pedigrees come in different colors.

I guess the different colors must be an FCI thing, in Mexico, at least for GSD, you get a pink pedigree if you breed under SV rules (survey, Xrays, IPO1) and a different color if you don't, so you have the option to go either route.

In the UK our KC issues just in one colour Registration certificate, but
there was a proposal, not sure if it has died a death entirely yet,  that if
the KC would start to ask for dogs registered to have health tested parents,
a two-colour system might be started.  Presumably to show the difference
while still in the transitional period [may not be necessary after a few years
again ?]

German titles is a whole different issue, and a vexed one.  A few years back,
the KC issued a blanket statement that SV Titles for grades or awards and
their component Shutzhund, Herding levels etc could NOT go on any paperwork
issued for UK-registered dogs.

So eg if you have a UK Champion sire to your litter that IS recorded;
if you have a Sieger as sire, it isn't.

This makes for reluctance to purchase the KC's printed-out full
pedigrees, because if (as most of us do) you want to show the German
etc ancestors'  titles to complete the pedigree info.,  you have to write all
those 'red' details in for yourself.
