Anonymous person here; I stay that way for my reasons. But when I get on here to promote myself , sell dogs, stud service , or pups I will let everyone know who I am. To the exact opposite  I want people to know that not all is done poorly inside of the GSD.I wish to promote how great the breed is. I wish to promote how great the system is [ and can be]. I wish to promote the national and international programs which all GSD people benefit . If you think you do not benefit from the strong influence of clubs look at breed specific leg and who fights it. I wish to promote the training of dogs at all levels. I crossed a few lines to make a point about the complainers and I only hope it is thought provocitive.

Teeth Smile Erbe, I think she's very beautiful and the right size for a female. I'm really impressed that you are able to keep so many dogs together without blood shed. They kept popping into the picture, last count 6. Did I get them all? That would have been a free for all at my house when I had multiple dogs.

"I crossed a few lines to make a point about the complainers..." See, that's an advantage one uses when they hide behind a screen name. Your tactics only diminish your credibitliy. There's always more than one view to any topic. And BTW, Mr Anonoymous, I am a member of USCA and pay my dues every year. The shitty magazine they send out about four times a year is a joke. But I still dump my dollars into the club to "support" it.

5 females, 1 male.
The sables, black and tan and Malinois are my own dogs. The black is a foster, the boxer was a boarder.

Most of the pack handling comes naturally due to my upbringing. We always had four or five males in the house (Gildo, Olko, Garfield and Satan) and for one or two years we also had Dixie (my female) in the house on top. Handled the dogs in the kennels, cleaning, exercising, switching in and out, feeding etc.
I would probably make a kick ass Kennel Master Tongue Smile

As long as you follow certain rules, there will be no fight. The most I've handled was 25 dogs at the same time at a daycare center I used to work. When they had full house, that's when they called me up. At home, I will not handle more than 10 dogs anymore, mainly because of what it does to the house. Wink Smile

please do not shoot the messenger . even if you do not know who sent the message you should examine the message to see if it helps. The thread - message was started by a German- German Shepherd owner - trainer- breeder. The message has been side tracted and attacked but it will help some to investigate that there is more to breeding than having a functional womb in a GSD female. All debate is good for the forum.

The matter of the fact is, the sport, in the United States, has been commercialized and people charge astronomical amounts for something, that you get for very little money in Germany.
It begins with Gas Money and ends with paying the Club and Helper.

That is a fact and the reality for many people.

If you live in a depressed rural area that has a high cost of living, it becomes even more reality.

The Sport of Schutzhund, in the United States is a sport for those who can afford it. Everyone else, is left behind. Unless you have contacts, live close to a club, or good friends with someone, find someone who will train with you just because they love training, you are left behind.

If you live three hours from the next club, it's basically not worth it to title the dog. While I have a lot of compassion for the breed, and man, do I love the breed, it's in my blood... I'm also very realistic. At some point I've added up what I had spend on gas money per month, just to drive to training. It was over 600 dollars on gas money alone, per month! And that is without any other expense.

Nope, not doing it anymore. Anything I do, from now on, will have to be within an hour. If that is not possible, than I guess I'll have to live with the fact of having some kick ass companions!

I've also tried to get a group together locally but that is a pain in the behind because trying to find somebody with the same commitment is basically impossible. Had the same issue in SAR. People just wouldn't commit to train twice a week because of work, family or financial reasons.

"...there is more to breeding than having a functional womb in a GSD female." here, here....like having a good occlusion and a full complement of teeth. I was sent a female puppy from a breeder who knew I wanted the female for breeding. Turns out the pup had an overbite which didn't correct, and in three weeks was preventing her from closing her mouth completely. It cost me over $960 shipping both ways and paying for two health certificates and two crates. I could have kept her and used her for breeding, not been in the hole nearly a thousand bucks, not to mention the purchase amount. I also bought a female pup, raised her til seven months, she was fantastic to train, but missing both upper P3s. I let her go to someone who did not care about the missing teeth, they wanted her for training. I didn't need an SV judge to tell me those bitches were not breeding quality, regardless of their pedigrees and the excellent temperaments, drives...everything a person would want in a GSD.....they just had bad mouths so I moved them along, and took the monetary hit.

wow, you have been through the gauntlet! bad pups a few times, a trainer took thousands of dollars from you and ruined your dogs, the helper at the club hit your dog in the feet. I guess all of this experience makes you what you are today. The UScA mag comes out 6 times per year and is quite good at being on time. You should contact the office for your 2 missing magazines.

by joanro on 24 July 2013 - 09:07

@gsdstudent; "Been through the gauntlet"? .....well first, the helper hitting my dog's feet was a yahoo (who happened to be a "certified" helper) I hired to come to the house to "work" my dogs, not at "club". The 'trainer' taking me for thousands of dollars and fukcing my dogs up was a bad experience due to poor judgement of the people I entrusted my dogs to. Anybody who buys pups takes a chance on missing teeth, but a breeder sending a pup with a bad occlusion without giving the receiver of the pup that information first is just par for most breeders I suppose. As for the magazine, if you get a lot out of it, good for you. You obviously haven't had much real life experience in the dog world, just your internet virtual life, I suppose. Any body who has been involved in the GSD world for any length of time will come across crap eventually. You stay safe behind your "handle" and keyboard and you won't be subjected to "the gauntlet".

A breeder who would sell a pup with an overbite to an experienced owner like Joanro without first advising her of the issue is someone I would never buy from or recommend for a working line dog.
