Well, I fell asleep for awhile and went in the dog room...she had a dead puppy she was trying to revive, very sad. I got her to get up to step outside, and did a quick count...there are still eleven. So she waited until I nooded off and had two more, for a total of 12 with one dead. I may not even bother hoping she is finished now. I will just see in the morning. Sigh.
Jyl, apparently Jonathan bought some of that puppy gold, but forgot to give it to me. So I will start her when he comes to visit this weekend.

As of 4:00 this morning, meaning nearly 3 hours ago, the final count was 13 with two dead. I think the labor lasted too long for the last ones to make it. They were two black females. I am still at eleven, but that's about as much as either of us can stand. Can you imagine? She had a litter like your average HOUND has.
I was paranoid for the last two weeks, as you know, because she got soooo big and had gained so much weight, big rock-hard belly. But two different vets on three different occasions counted FIVE and she had THIRTEEN? Wow. As I say, she is not a huge dog, averaging about 65 pounds; that had to have been an awful strain but she held up. She had been demanding a lot of food, so I guess I know why. I know everybody says not to overfeed until AFTER the delivery, but I just couldn't stand to see her pelvic bones sticking out that way!.
Looks like I have every color imaginable, including two black and tans. It'll take me a month to figure out how I got all the colors. The dad is a very plain, non-flashy looking dog whose whole amazing feature comes from his working. He's not ugly, just ordinary. Well, more photos to come as soon as I switch out her bedding again!
