^^^^LOL at this guy.  again, nobody is blaming anybody except you.  When can we see you on the trial field? Got your helper book yet?  How many excellent ratings?  LOL  Me and Nance :).... and Ram, and susie and MikeD and Bob and etc, etc etc.  Go to another board and see the same thing.

zdog,

Nothing is out of sequence.  I showed each image in succession.   Yes, I do helper work...certainly not at Marcus' level.  Never stated that and never meant to imply that.    Yes, I have caught many fast, flyer types.   I have watched others work Ebor and took a bite from him.  He is freakishly fast and athletic.

Simple geometry from the first frame shows that the dog is less than 10 feet away and ready to launch, not 15 feet, unless Marcus is 4 feet tall.   When a super fast dog is less than helper two body lengths away, you need to have the sleeve up at chest height for presentation, otherwise you are asking for a disaster (which luckily no one got hurt here).

Think of the reaction time here.  The dog is going ~ 30 mph and is ~ 10 feet away from the helper.  He targets the sleeve.  The helper moves the sleeve up at this point.  The dog will be at the helper in 0.27 seconds.    No way the dog is redirecting and getting a clean grip.    It could be that after catching all of those slow GSDs (and some slower Mals), coupled with the poor field conditions, Marcus just didn't time it correctly and was late getting the sleeve up.  It happens.  The guy is a decorated helper, but still makes mistakes.

Screen shots don't allow you to go frame by frame otherwise I would do an apples to apples comparison.  I never stated that the distances were identical.

For a long catch, the helper is supposed to give a clear presentation for the dog.   That presentation needs to be set for the dog before he launches or wants to launch.  It wasn't in this case.

If you want your helpers to run through dogs without a presentation, try KNPV on for size.    For a super fast flyer like Ebor, a helper needs to work within his physical capabilities not to injure the dog.  If that means coming to a stop and not running through the dog (Marcus came to a stop on every single dog that I saw on his highlights video), then that is what should be done.  I very rarely see helpers run through top dogs on a long bite.  Very few people on the planet have that athletic ability and timing.

He also did turn early.  You aren't supposed to turn your body until the dog makes contact.

Breaking things down via video is what any athlete does if he wants to improve.

Anyway, it is part of the sport.  You guys seem to be arguing that this was flawless helper work and it was all on the dog.  The video frames tell a different story.

Bubba you wrote:

I have dogs just as fast and just as strong as Ebor and I catch them and I know better than towave the slevee around after they get close or I will hurt them or they will hurt me.  All that crap about saving the dog is just crap.  The helper did not get in position and had to pull the sleeve in tight and turn quickly to catch up to the dog that he misjudged.  In so doing he pulled the sleeve up a foot or more and denied Ebor a bite.  The helper screwed up clear and simple if you watch the video but if you are using your imagination or don't have experience with a dog as fast as Ebor I see it could be easy to get confused.  I don't trust anyone defending the helper as innocent for two reasons .. first the video says you are a liar and second none of you have been worthy of trust in the past.

I really doubt that you have dogs just as fast or as strong as Ebor!!!!  I also doubt you catch them half as well as Marcus catches dogs.  I will also say that dogs "playing tug of war" with their owner do not show the same intensity, speed or power as a dog in drive doing a long bite with a stranger.  There is simply no comparison.  Please post some videos of these power house dogs and you catching them and prove to me that you, sir, are not lying.

Bubba,
You made a statement and I am asking you to clarify and prove it.  I have not made a comment regarding the catch.  I will say that it happens and anyone can have a bad day including the dog, handler and helper.  I don't think Ebor was the fastest or strongest dog in the competition but still an excellent dog.  I think it is comical for you to compare the puppies that you produce to any of the dogs out there competing.  But, I am sure every dog on your property is the "Bundesseiger" of your yard.  Every one of them comes blazing fast and super hard in your back yard and you catch each one with spectacular precision and great athleticism.  Of course most of us will never see this and must simply take your word for it.  Sorry, if I don't buy it with out seeing it.

No bad Kharma coming my way, I'm good.  Thanks!  But a very weird response.

Western Rider, did everyone find the speed control on the youtube Video?
I made a screen shot of where that control is.
lower right corner of the video box. in this case 25% of normal speed was chosen.

Not convinced that it will finalize anything but, so much for the helper jumping up and the dog missing the arm.
