I have a few clients in these states that are looking for a good trainer to do some basic obedience with their dogs and possibly more, in a class setting or private lessons. Obviously would prefer someone used to working with German Shepherds and someone that truly knows dogs and dog behavior, not your random Petsmart trainer. Any referrals you have would be great. Referrals to clubs with good training directors helpful to newbies to IPO are also welcome and wanted.

Thanks so much in advance. I'd like personal referrals if possible, or at least no further than second hand, and please not just a list off the internet, that I can find myself LOL. PM's with warnings of who to stay away from are also very much welcome of course!!

I'm in NV what city are you looking at? I have a couple of friends who train dogs for the public, one more to what you are looking for. She is right now training a dutchie for schutzhund/mondio and is a wiz in dog behavior. Can teach anything to even the most stubborn dogs from basic obedience up. If you need Reno area, I cant help you.

If your interested, pm me and I can give you her name and number.

I'm in Albuquerque, NM.
I would recommend Kevin Sheldahl for IPO obedience. He is our lead trainer at New Mexico Hundesport. 30 years experience as a K9 Handler and trainer, knows the GSD very well.
Also, Lisa Berry with Custom K9 Performance.....trains with us at the club....was a student of Kevin's........competes nationally in many venues.....knows many different breeds of dogs.
If you would like additional information about these people PM me and I will be happy to give you contact info.

Cheri

If you need a SL contact I would recommend Janna Fothergil..she is her in ABQ and has been around as long as Kevin.

Any of you have information on the training programs offered by Gunbil German Shepherds, please pm me. The client in NM is leaning very much toward their training program where the dog stays in the Gunbils home. Thank you.

In the Tucson area I wouldn't go anywhere other than Jay Belcher (Sublime Canine).  He is a wonderful trainer who works with dogs of all types and motivations but specializes in sport and working dogs.  He competes and titles in many different sports and if he isn't winning the events it's usually his clients who are.  He is a patient and thorough trainer who knows how to motivate and challenge both the dogs and the handler.
