Hi
I am stil in shock over this. My male German Shepherd that is 15 months old just bit my 17 year old daughter. What took place is this-I let him in from being outside in the yard, he was outside with my other male playing for about an hour,so I was bringing him in and was going to put him in his crate for the night,he did not want to go in so i was going to get him a treat and let him hang around the house for a little while, well my daughter pushed himnot hard or mean in his butt the dog bit her 3 times I did not even know this was happening until she yelled "MOM HE IS BITING ME" I mean he did not bark ,growl nothing i thought he was just sniffing her. He has NEVER shown any meaness or anything of that sort. If anything he is like a big goofy dog,the least likely to hurt anyone. WE had him since he was 12 weeks old. He is a family dog kept in the house, crate only at night for bed, we walk him play with him. I just do not understand this and do not know what to do. he broke the skin on her leg her arms and other leg are fine. right now he is outside. We are all so upset,I do not know what to do with him. he knows his commands has been to training, this just not like him .please any advise will be needed.Did anyone else ever had this happen with your German Shepherds? One more thing he is not fixed and we do not breed him we have a female that is 5 years old ,but she is fixed. thanks for your help in advance. I am so upset,oh and just to let all of you know I am 46 and since I was a kid we always had German shepherds so I am not new to this breed.

You say he broke the skin.  Is it a puncture or a surface scratch?  The severity of the bite and his demeanor immediately afterward would be the most telling signs.  Did he run away?  Did he try to corner or intimidater her?  Did he run around like a nut?  He could have still been in play mode and was just being too rough, which is still unacceptable, but not as dire as true aggression, he needs to know his boundaries.  Was she pushing him into the crate or just pushing him to play?  It depends on all circumstances surrounding the incident.  You also have to look at what their relationship has been to this point.  How do they normally interact?  Are they buddies?  Does he annoy her?  Does he love her?  Does he ignore her?  There are too many question marks to be able to know the his true intent.

I don't think it matters what the daughter did, this dog is unstable and I would put it down.

The dogs intent is clear, he wanted to bite and he did.  No excuses allowed for a family dog
raised since a baby with this girl, to bite her.  NO EXCUSES!

While I tend to agree with you, GSDSRULE, I wouldn't put a dog down because he was playing too rough.  It would depend on the severity of the bite.  If he bit three times and the worst was a surface scrath, I'd think more than twice about the life in the balance.

no he was not playing he was very silent in went in for the bites. she has his teeth marks on her leg her skin is bite open. and if I did not get him under control he was going at her for more bites. they were very close he is a family pet and she was playing with him not being mean to him. He has never ever acted this way ever towards anyone, like I said he was a big fluffy goofy loving boy. i just do not understand what happened. he is still outside I do not know how to handle this because i have never had a dog do this before. She is now very scared of him . when he was attacking her he was looking at her tail erect ears pinned back and no hackles up no barking not even a growl. I am so confused by his actions,I was in the room and it happened so fast and quite I did even know she was being bit. oh this is just so sad and confusing i just do not understand why.

also someone asked did he run around after or did he corner her. he had he cornered. His eyes also were different like dark intense. this all so sad for the dog and her.she was close to him. thats why this is so hard for us. he is really a very sweet boy. could be that he is maturing and showing his dominance?

Please do NOT be too quick to judge this situation. More details are needed.

The O P needs time to settle down and consider the whole situation and then repost.

I'm really sorry for you.  I doubt you'll ever know what triggered that attack.  I agree that it makes no sense if it's totally out of character for him.  Very sad.

dogshome9-i am calm right now and the last thing I want to do is put this dog down. I also want my daughter to be safe. What i am trying to find out is what would make him do this. is it his maturing or showing his dominance ? as for tonight should i go and let him in just with me and see how he is right now?

The age is certainly suspect here.  It is hard for me to envision this in my mind.  Usually there is some sort of growling.  Has he ever shown any dominance over food or toys?

What is his pedigree?
