"Fort Dodge Animal Health was recently granted a license by the USDA for Giardia Vax®, the first vaccine to prevent disease and reduce cyst shedding caused by Giardia infection in dogs. Giardia Vax has been proven to be an aid in the prevention of disease caused by Giardia infection. Giardia Vax is safe and effective for healthy dogs eight weeks of age or older.."

Anyone try this, does it work?

Wonder if it could be used for humans, last time we went backpacking I came down with it - very nasty!

I used it for a while on puppies as a routine had no side affects. I purchased the shots after I read a article on that Giardia in the working dog magazine. The shots itself are expensive, I have not used it anymore lately.

SitasMom, I don't know anything about that Giardia Vax but, my Vet told me about an incident involving Cocidia and the medicaine she uses to treat the dogs.

Awhlle back, one of her customers came with a new puppy that had diarrhea.  She treated it and he was a happy dog.  A few days later, the Doctor of the owner of the puppy called her to see how the puppy was treated as the whole family had diarrhea.  The medicine the Doctor prescribed to the family did not work so they decided to try the same medicine the puppy had and it worked just fine.

I believe it would take a Chemist to determine if any medicine for dogs, cats or other animals would be safe for Humans.  We are too different.
