I know feeding raw is the best but if you had to go with a food which one would be better for a working german shepard pup? Here is a few.....

We use National Dog Food Competition X-tra for some of our dogs.......but for a grain free food, we LOVE Evo Red Meat.
Evo is $$ pricey....but OMG, it is super!........at least for us!

I feed evo: turkey to a couple of my pups. And I am very happy with it. but you should change the food slowly as most of the dogs i have switched onto it (without proper grace period) got runny stools because it is much richer than ordinary food. A much higher protein and fat content. i believe 42% protein and 26% fat if i remember right and the meats arent cooked before processing so it its a much higher quality protein. I love it and it has worked well with every dog i have put on it. You also feed much less of it so it helps maintain food drive and less waste to clean up.
Here is a good picture of one of my boys coats at 15months. also you can see his muscle tone
and health from my avatar as well. both photos were taken on the same day.

I also have had good results lately with Candiae's Grain Free ALS. I have one "hard keeper" who is looking great on it. Slightly more moderate protein/fat ratio- 34/18.

Vetschoice, cheap, and works as well as Orijen, and comapres very well to Raw except is not raw. I go in between RAW and vetchoice and there is no major difference. I still prefer RAW because I controll the ingredients, but if I don't feed RAW vetschoice is the only thing that my dogs get.

And where do you find VETSCHOICE?? Nothing would come up on the web?? Thanks for the info.

if you HAVE TO feed kibble and not raw, I'd go with Solid Gold, one of the better ones out there. Above mentioned choices don't suck, too.

Got to disagree. Solid Gold is pretty overpriced for the ingredients, and nowhere near the quality of some of the aforementioned. Barking at the Moon is the only Solid Gold formula I'd consider feeding.
Snajper....where do you get that stuff and what's in it?

First off how old is your pup? If the pup is young and still growing I wouldnt feed a dog food that is too high in protein right now. The foods that you listed are great foods. If you want to go with a grain free food I would use the Natural Balance. Their grain free formulas are lower in protein. Their formulas are for all life stages.
By the way, it is german Shepherd not shepard..
....sorry it drives me nuts when people do that...
