Hi All,
I finally have time to post a quick update on Oakley...

I ended up being unable to take the dogs with me when I went out of town, due in major part to the fact that where we had to park our trailer was at a state park, in the employees portion, with permission from the park manager, but much to the consternation of one of the volunteers, so it wasn't a good choice to take the dogs up there with us...Didn't want that jerk to cause problems for my inlaws and my nephew who works there.

Oakley and Misty were taken care of here at home by my stepson, and my hubby when he was back home, but they should be able to go this weekend, when we go up after another load of firewood.  I won't be working on the wood, and the kids and I will likely pick huckleberries.

I'll post some pics a bit later, I've got beans in the pressure canner and I have to watch them so they don't blow up!

Thanks for the update but can't tell you how disappointed I was to find no pic attached.  Sigh.  Well, when the beans are done I can feast my eyes.

Okay...Here are a couple of new pics.  I've been having trouble with my camera the past couple of days, so these aren't as good as I'd like, and I've missed some really good pics because of the darn camera.  I need to get a couple of new batteries for my camera.

Oakley is doing pretty well.  We're going to start with formal obedience here pretty soon, likely not a class, but I have some experience with training, so...

Here are the pics...

Oakley resting in the shade...Interesting how she always knows where the shade is.  Who says you need eyes to see?
The next pic down is one I took a couple of days ago, a new experience for Oakley.  My stepson's Malamute and pups were a good chance to work with Oakie...the momma knows that Oakie means her babies no harm, so she doesn't over-react.  Believe me, I wouldn't let her anywhere near the bigger dog if I were concerned over a negative reaction from Momma...Though momma wasn't too sure about my camera:-)

The last pic is self explanatory.  Oakley is growing into a very pretty girl...Getting quite tall, I might add.  She's probably standing at about 16" at the shoulder, maybe a bit more.

Crys Oakley looks beautiful in the last pic!  Amazing job with her!  She can still grow into her ears, but can't they all!
I't's very late.   Got to go for now.  Will write later.

Sorry DebiSue...I was about to post pics earlier, but my hubby came in wanting to eat, so I had to go take care of him.  And it was lunchtime of Oakie, too, so I had to see to her.

I was having trouble with the above post...Text and pics were not working right, and I couldn't add text very well between the pics.  I don't know what was going on, but I'll try to edit tomorrow, maybe add some more pictures.

SInce I got back, I've been doing laundry, feeding kids, dogs, and husband, and trying to get caught up, which has not been easy.  I'm calling it a night early tonight.  I need the sleep!

Good Night!

Steph,

It's just the way she was sitting in that pic...She's still on the lean side, just the way she should be, despite my mother in law's assertion that she's way too skinny.  I'll try to get a better pic of her in the light tomorrow, to show her condition a bit better.  She's definitely not fat, although her ribs don't stick out.  You can still feel them, and see them, and her hip bones can be felt under her coat, though they are getting some muscle built over them now.  She is quite deep in the chest, but not fat, I promise!!!

I endure a lot of crap because I keep her thin and others think she needs to be heavier.  I'm told, "A skinny dog is a hungry dog, there's nothing wrong with a fat, happy dog."

To Which I respond, "I guess fat and happy is worth all the health problems and lost years of life to you, but I think I'll keep my dog lean and happy, thank you very much."

Dirty looks usually follow, but the vet in our family thinks she looks just fine, so I'll ignore the others.  She's happy, gentle, and the best GSD pup I think I could have found at this point in my life.  I have no complaints!

Crys

EDIT:

Steph, I give her hugs every day.  She comes up and puts her head, nose tucked down, under my arm, and leans into me, just stands there, and I tell her how much you miss her.  I get a gentle wag of the tail from her, and I wonder if she understands me.  I think she does.

She's so laid back, so easy-going, especially with people, though she does bark when she hears someone coming up the driveway, but she's never aggressive, never threatening.  Great girl, and so ladylike....Okay, sometimes not so ladylike, but hey, a girl's got to have fun!

OMG!  Look how she has grown!!!!  That last picture should be framed, it's gorgeous.  That pup has a lot of bone.  Thanks for sharing.  Got my fix for now.  Hope you get your camera to working better.  I had a spell where mine was messed up and I missed some great shots too.  Don't let the fatties get to you.  I keep my girl slim too but she also has that deep chest and looks bigger than she is.  I may have too much lard on my body but I'm taking better care of my girl!
