Opinions  please:

How much do you feed to your adult dogs, how often, and  is it  rich and fattening? Do you use it as a filler with kibble and or supplement  as a meal by itself?

Thanks in advance

I feed it as a meal by itself usually once or twice a week, around a third or a half pound each time.   I don't know how rich or fattening it is, my young male GSD has no problem digesting it and is a very active, lean dog.

Geeze, actually this is ON topic.

All the information I've gotten is it's an excellent addition to raw meaty bones.  I'm getting a beef for my dogs and me in a couple weeks so will be dealing with quite a bit of green tripe...........  Sue feeds raw so I would (and have) listen to her.

I feed raw to my dogs. My dogs coat is like silk and the one had a big hot spot prior and it went away. I mix it up. I also sell raw so it's easier for me to get. I would feed a week of beef. Then i would feed a week of Green Tripe. Chicken and Veg etc. All mixed in with a little kibble and Alaskan Salmon oil. I'm also getting new products in i'm excited to try (pheasant, turkey w/sardines). But nothing beats the raw. You have to watch because some raw isn't complete. You have to add to it. The beef, pheasant, turkey, chicken etc i get are all complete with vitamins minerals etc. And you can tell a difference in their stools.  When on raw the stool is brittle and it crumbles.

I have been feeding for quite a while now (mixed with kibble) but just wondering how others directly use it. Digestion is awesome, stools are excellent, eating habits are great and of course teeth are white as snow.
Some say to give give a large portions, some give straight, but dogz being carnivours how does this apply to meat? It is an internal organ.

Are you asking if you could feed nothing but green tripe?  I know people that do and swear by it.  I don't, I feed it once or twice a week, I don't mix anything else with it, just straight stinky green tripe.  I don't feed kibble and I don't feed premade RAW mixes either.  I prefer to just do it myself.

The following are the whole bones I feed as staples:  Chicken frames w/necks (which usually have some kidney attached) ; lamb necks; pork necks; venison necks;

I  feed beef kidney liver and heart,  and of course, green tripe.

I  supplement with Vit E and wild cold pressed salmon oil.

I feed 2 X a day.

My dogs are all adults.  If you have a growing pup, you should consult with someone who has a lot more knowledge about it than I do.  I would suggest checking out the  Leerburg board.  Connie is a moderator there and one of the most knowledgeable people I know, she is the one who got me started with RAW.

I feed about 1/4 can of green tripe per dog with each 3 cups of dry, high-quality kibble to my pups. I actually makes their teeth look cleaner and the coats are full, even for summer coats. I have read that it should not be used as a replacement for meals, but more as an additive to meals to aid in digestion and to help metabolize the nutrients in their regular feed.

My adult dogs love it too but I only use it as something to aid digestions and to help keep their teeth clean.

sueincc where are you getting your green tripe? I feed raw but have yet to feed it. I had an online store that was going to figure a way to send it frozen, then poof... they don't have it anymore. I know SG has it canned but would prefer frozen.

green tripe is a favorite at our house.  i feed it as a whole meal, about 1-1.5 lbs per dog.  you can feed it often, and you can also use it for stomach upsets rather than boiled chicken and rice.

trailrider, where are you located?

we are in nj, and we usually get beef, sheep, and buffalo tripe.

I know a lot of people who get it from these guys:  http://www.greentripe.com/  and have nothing but great things to say about them.  Very professional and reliable.

I get it from Oma's Pride:  http://www.omaspride.com/products.htm#tripe  They are a lot less expensive, but I have to order by the case, which is 40lbs.  There is a gal very near me who is an Oma's distributor, so it works out great for me. I have a seperate stand alone  freezer just for my dog's RAW because I order everything in bulk to save money, BUT if you want  less, another option is to get a friend or two to go in on a case with you and split it out yourselves.

Trailrider:  If I recall correctly, you grind all your bones and stuff, right?  Do you supplement with any vitamins or anything?
