Yasko puppies - Page 1

Does anyone know of any Yasko puppies that have been born in the US since his importation? Were they from shipped semen or natural breeding? Please respond privately. I really like this dog and am interested in a puppy out of him or would like to breed something to him. thanks susan

For what--a single breeding and guarantee of perhaps one puppy (live?). Louise

Louise, that is very basic stud management. Most owners of the top studs in Germany require nothing less. Except for Brucellosis, its not a problem in Germany, ...yet. Brucellosis test should always be a given, no idea why that would be a hoop to jump through. If you have it in your kennel, it can spred pretty easily and affect all of your breeding stock. This is also for your protection, to make sure your bitch will not bring it home after breeding. You should always ask for a recent Brucellosis test for the male as well. Do not let the stud dog owner just brush you off with saying it is required for all females so he does not need it. A dog that is shown a lot for example can pick it up there too. Culture swab should also be a given. As a matter of fact, most German breeders routinely "clean up" the bitch with antibiotics at the onset of the heat cycle to make sure there is nothing that will interefere with conception and pregnancy. Two breeder friends who did not bother recently had to do an emergency spay each because their bitches had developed an infection during pregnancy. They lost the litters of course and now have top females that are fixed. The vets opinion in both cases - females must have had something at the time of breeding already, and it could most likely have been avoided by addressing it before the breeding. I am usually against the use of antibiotics unless absolutely unavoidable, think they are hopelessly overused. This is where I make an exception. Progesterone testing helps the owner determine the best time for breeding. If they accompany their bitch they do not have to stay a week or more for the right time. Who would have the time for that anyways? And once you have a popular stud and you have several people coming for stud cover per month, you want to make sure they are not just taking up your time for nothing. Progresterone testing is not 100%, but at least it helps. Any stud dog owner of a top male who has someone coming for a breeding every other day or so would laugh in your face if you could not be sure that the timing was right. I see absolutely no problem there. My time is just as valuable. IMO all stud dog owners would be wise to require the same for live cover, and all bitches owners would be wise to make sure such measures are in effect for all females going to that stud. Never mind the male, it ensures the health of the bitches being bred to that dog.

I can understand how one would find "jumping through hoops" quite annoying. There is however a flip side to that coin. When a person pays a small fortune to aquire a well known famous dog-it's understandable why all measures would have to be taken to assure said dog's health and reputation are kept in tact. I know of one very famous dog who lost his life when bred to a bitch with Brucellosis. I have an extra large son of Yasko,who is like my child. I admit I am prejudice when it comes to Yasko and his offspring.

LouiseM. Only my opinion and with regard: If you're not willing to comply with a few basis requirements in order to be able to use this particular dog, I doubt if you're wearing your thinking-cap quite the right way!

If you get a puppy from Bill Fleischer be prepared to pay HUGE price for a Yasko pup... Almost all of his bitches that's being bred to Yasko will be marked as ULTIMATE Show/Breeding/Schutzhund potential "Super Stars" $5000 - $7500 & up because Yasko is a VA dog. Who's going to pay that much for a crap shooting puppy? I can get a SchH2 bitch with good pedigree for $6000!!! Another thing is don't forget to ask a contract guaranteeing that the 8 week old puppy that you're planning on getting will get "A" normal hips plus getting very high conformation and schutzhund rating and able to breed high quality dogs. (Know that sounds silly).
