I have a 3 year old female collie,,,I have a large front yard maybe three acres in which she has liked up until now...Twice in the last week she has taken off to the neighbors house which is a 1/4 mile from my home...she is spayed ...now i have her on a 50 foot piece of clothes line rope which is very light weight and she will not do her job while she is on the rope...I have waited up to an hour for her to do her job outside and when I bring her back in with 10 minutes she has made her deposit of c---- on my carpeting....does anyone have any ideas

Sounds like your collie has a friend ,telling me he/she is bored ,ever think of a buddy dog or how about a fenced in yard...

Fence your yard, or at least part of it.  You've been extremely fortunate so far, to have gotten through 3 years before she began to get bored in her own yard and started wandering off when something caught her interest elsewhere.  Don't press your luck, though--it only takes one car or truck to kill her when she's roaming, and it only takes on deer, squirrel or rabbit to lure her across a roadway.

Collie is a breed that is very smart and yes you need to give her something to do or a friend like others have said, Collie think like they are Royalty and think like the shit dont stink , that just them , i know as i use to have a very beautiful boy.

Hello Cabinman,  I do agree with the reply from hexe, could you not fence a particular area, that your Collie could use when she was outside?

Also, may I ask how much time she spends outside?  Please do not feel offended, (as we only have what is said on the Thread) but dogs are obviously Pack animals, and need us (their family) to interact and bond together with.  Do you train with her, or take her anywhere?

Equally, although you have 3 acres, do you actually take her out with you for a walk somewhere different?  The enjoyment and stimulation of 'the Pack'  going on an adventure together, cannot be compared to being outside on her own.  Neither can it be compared to just throwing a ball or frisbee "to exercise her" - instead of going off somewhere together (that is not her home ground).

Hope this helps,
Kind Regards,
Vixen
