Could this relate to GSDs too?  Is it a sound idea to use well water or city water that has had the fluorine removed by reverse osmosis and special filtering?  Where does the fluoride come from anyway and are there other contaminants in it before it is injected into the city water systems?  Why are various cities and counties now removing fluoride and other ones trying to add it?  Why did LA double the amount of fluoride added to iots water system?  Did testimony at the Nuremberg war crime trials after WW2 show that fluoride was added to the water at the death camps?  Did Stalin order fluoride to be added to the water in the Russian gulags?  Does fluoride reduce thyroid output, harm bones, and slowly poison, sometimes causing cancer?  Does fluoride really prevent cavities or does it cause dental fluorosis?  A large amount of actual scientific research is now quite easily available on the internet for those that want to do some in depth searches. Have any medical societies changed their views of fluoride and has the ADA changed its recommendations?

Preston,
this reminds me of the Mel Gibson movie, Conspiracy Theory.
No Fluoride for me thank you very much.

Recently within the last year several respected medical authorities have come to the conclusion and gone public that the problem is the total amount of fluoride absorbed from numerous sources that is dangerous.  It has been proven to be linked to bone cancer in children, lower IQ in kids and adults and hypothyroidism. One alarming issue is the manufacturing and distribution of bottled water and formula for infacts which has fluoride added, along with claims of increasing the health of the child who consumes it.  Some evidence shows no actual value at all to any fluoride in one's drinking water and some experts think a very, very small amount is probably okay, but most folks get far too much because it is added to most packaged food products.

Moons, actually the reasons that fluoride was declared good for teeth if added to the city water was basically based on bribery and financial inventives at the time.  There was a scandal where flouride was being discharged into the area surrounding the refinig of uranium and this was maing folks sick.  So the solution they came up with was to claim fluoride should be added to the water, then they wouldn't have to pay huge amounts of money for toxic waste disposal.  And this would provide cover and prevent liability lawsuits for what they had done but were now stopping. Also the aluminum refining industry and the gypsum industry was generating large amounts of fluoride as a byproduct and they wanted to sell this to city water depts instead of paying to dispose of it as toxic waste.  So they allegedly co-opted a top medical man who carried the water for them on this, all with no scientific proof of any benefit.  There is so much evidence that fluoride is toxic it fill books.  It was used and developed as a rat poison at one time.  Doubt that fluoride should be added to the city water supply, just ask yourself this:  how can any medical product (it was declared such by the ADA) be added to the water without a prescription limiting the range of dosage per specific patients?  This is clearly illegal and a tort. No other drug is allowed to be dispensed that way with such a wide range of dosage per person.

i don't know how much everyone elses horses drink, but mine drink at least 10 gal ea per day.  more if its really hot.  we have good old rusty farm well water, but i would hate to think how much flouride could be in 10 gal of city water.

theres lots of info on the web about flouride.......including how the nazis used it to make people docile, how it is a main ingredient in prozac & similar drugs,  how it has never been proven to prevent cavities, plus all the undesirables that are detrimental to our health.  conspiracy theory-HA!  not a theory, but a fact.  flouride is used on us by those who seek our demise.  it is extreme poisonous, even in tiny amounts.

Ziegenfarm, your level of knowledge is impressive.  I checked your claim that fluoride is an element in prozac and it seems that you are correct on this (I didn't know about that one).  Certainly the required warning label and history on prozac suggests it is perhaps the SSRI with the most dangerous side effects in certain susceptible individuals.

Major local news media are starting to cover this.  the tide is turning thank God. Sad to say how much bone cancer, degenerative arthritis and hypothyroidism has likley been caused by this scandalous poisoning of the water.

"...how it is a major ingredient in prozac ..."

Are u quite sure about that, Ziegenfarm ?
I'm no Chemist or Pharmacist,  but I've just tried to check your claim and found
no  connection  [other than when spelled correctly the two share their first 3 letters]What Smile

Perhaps Preston could share his confirmation source ?

Thanks.  I think I was talking about factual sources, not nut-job websites.

Prior to teaching biology, I was a lab supervisor in a pathology lab that did research for NIEHS.  One of the studies we worked on was fluoride.  We found that if used properly it is safe in drinking water.  If you know anything about chemistry, then you would know that the miniscule amounts of fluoride used in drinking water hydrolyze completely.

serving greater than 80 and 36 million persons,
respectively (Urbansky and Schock, 2000). Currently, silicofluorides are used in over 9200 U.S.
water treatment systems, serving over 120 million individuals (CSDS, 2001). Exposure via
drinking water is, however, expected to be minimal, since at concentrations used in water

fluoridation and at the normal pH of drinking water, both compounds hydrolyze almost
completely (see Section 2.2) (Urbansky and Schock, 2000). At equilibrium, the
hexafluorosilicate remaining in drinking water is estimated to be <<1 parts per trillion (Urbansky
and Schock, 2000). In addition, exposure to impurities in the fluoridating agent is judged to be
of low health risk when properly treated water is ingested. For example, in fluorosilicic acid,
iron and iodine are usually below the levels considered useful as a dietary supplement; the
phosphorus level is reported to be insignificant; and silver is usually <4 parts per septillion in the
fluoridated water (CSDS, 2001).
