Hi,

There are only three excepted colors by AKC; they are yellow, black and chocolate.

As stated in an earlier response, there are only three nationally and AKC recognized colors of the Labrador Retriever; black, chocolate and yellow. "Silver" Labs or Labs with the 'silver factor' come from a line which was originally bred by a kennel who also owned Weimeraners. It is believed that the original "silver" Labs were bred with Weim's and are not considererd true Labradors. So, if you want a true Labrador, find a reputable breeder who is dedicated to enhancing the standard, but if you're looking for something just based off color, go ahead and get the silver. Here is a link to do a little more reading. Good luck :)
