Anyone see the new reality show about chainsaw art carvers? It was surprisingly, pretty interesting. I would actually call these guys artists. They keep with the tradition of Michaelangelo and Giacometti in preserving the integrity of the material. And seeking to find the form within.
This one guy, was a bit of wild one, but he ended up carving this awesome mermaid, part of a whole table installation for the Fisherman's Wharf in Vancouver, BC.
I'm wondering ... has anybody seen it in person?

I have seen that at a local fair. They had all kinds of different animals they had carved. Pretty neat. They had a time posted when they would be doing it live, but we left before that. I'll bet they move from fair to fair to sell their goods.

Yeah, I guess they have speed competitions. These were commissioned works though, much more interesting than all those bears one sees pawing in the air. Give me a minute... I'll see if I can find the mermaid...
Well, I found her but not at the installation....the whole installation had a table and a heron and a carp and stuff...
I made her small on purpose!!!! LOL Any way, he sure knows how to use a chainsaw! I think I picked one up once, and then promptly put it back down.
