I was just given an AKC registered Labrador by some people who just could not handle him. Being that I know zilch about Lab bloodlines, I was hoping you all could help give me an idea. Here's his pedigree:

it looks like the dog is a result of breeding by inexperinced people not titles in three gen is not a good sign also there should be OFA numbers appearing under all the names in well bred dogs, that does not mean he is npt going to be a good pet ,if hes not neutered you should have to done right away

I was told that his breeder actively hunts with their dogs, but I cannot find any contact information for them. Not planning on breeding him; no worries there. Not even planning on keeping him, but I just wondered what (if anything) I might expect out of him as far as what he might be best suited for. He's very mouthy, and he does seem to like retrieving, but he's so out of shape that after a couple of times he's exhausted. He's going to be going on lots of short walks every day for a while.

it does not look like any of the dogs have hunting titles, maybe get a heartworm test if he tires easily just to be safe

No, there were no titles on his pedigree, but that just means that they do not compete (none have OFA ratings, either, though). His previous owner told me that they actually hunted with their dogs. I don't know if that's true or not, because I have not been successful in finding any contact information for his breeder.

I think his biggest problem right now is being overweight and out of shape, but he will be heartworm tested once I get some weight off of him and teach him to load up into the car. I had to pick his 90lb butt up all by myself to get him in the car when I went to get him! NOT FUN! LoL

The more I look into things, the more I'm sure he's the product of backyard breeding, but hey, if he has the drives to do hunting or detection work, I'm going to do all I can to bring them out! I'd love to place him into a working home!
