Carlin

Gasoline is about to skyrocket. Normally this time of year, with lower demand, prices drop. This year, prices are climbing in February regardless. Some states are already seeing $4.00 (yes, I do realize this is cheap compared to what some id our EU friends pay). It may get a whole lot more expensive than that. Analysts say that if Israel acts against Iran's nuclear program, price per barrel will of certainly reach $200-$300. This seems to be getting more likely by the day. UN inspectors have been denied access to crucial areas at nuclear sites in Iran, and the ministry there has indicated it will begin pre-emptive attacks against Israel through supported militant groups among the Palestinians. Rhetoric or not, the continual inflammatory language isn't make the US and EU plea to Israel for a diplomatic solution any easier. $300/barrel oil should do wonders for the Euro crisis.

Good thing we bought those oil leases when we did, then! DH though, keeps wanting me to sell the Caddy. Even though I'm convinced someone siphons the gas out of my tank every night, I'm keeping the damn thing. Something about that Northstar V8 engine, that really gives me a boost in confidence when I need to escape some road raging maniac.  And they are out there!

When I met my wife, I rode a Ninja that scared the heck out of her. She was worried something sick every time I was on it, so I sold it after years of riding. Today, I found myself wondering if the possible $6.50/gal gas this summer would allow me enough of an excuse to ask her if I can buy another one. :-D

The big media companies (and politicians) probably are heavily invested in oil.

Carlin, maybe it was because you were on a rice rocket, and you need to buy American. Hope you wear a helmet. My Harley riding friends just never seem to want to listen to reason, only the wind in their ears.

@lee - what needs to happen is the end of crude speculation on the commodities market. @bee - with a 50mph first gear, I always wore a helmet; seemed silly not to. All the years gone by may have slowed me down enough to find myself on a Fat Boy.

It is interesting to note that consumption in US is actually down 7%.  But that doesn't really matter in a global economy when China is roaring with consumption.

I remember too, with the electric utilities and gas companies, as soon as consumption decreased, the power companies complained they weren't making their profit margins and wanted a rate increase. Outrageous.

I thought this was pretty cool....  http://www.GasBuddy.com/

I'm seriously considering getting my motorcycle license.
I used to ride one to work without one, but wouldn't dare do that these days.

The way gas prices are going, maybe you should ride the horse to work. LOL
