Happy Independence Day all !

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

  • He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
  • He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
  • He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
  • He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
  • He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
  • He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
  • He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
  • He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

So sincere were they, in their belief that all men were created equal, that it only took another 188 years for non-whites and women to gain equal rights in this country.
We're still working on that whole equal rights for homosexuals thing.

Slavery is not something to be proud of but it is a fact that happened to every country, kingdom and empire that has been on this earth.  One must realize that the black race was not the only race in the last 400 years that was in bondage.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abolition_of_slavery_timeline

the last country to illegalize salavery was only back in the mid 1981 - yes that 1981 and the practice is still alive and growing!

Irish Slave Facts
The Irish slave trade began when James II sold 30,000 Irish prisoners as slaves to the New World.  His Proclamation of 1625 required Irish political prisoners be sent overseas and sold to English settlers in the West Indies.
By the mid 1600s, the Irish were the main slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat (70% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves at this time).
From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and over 300,000 were sold as slaves.
Ireland's population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade.
During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were forcibly taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England.  Another 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia while 30,000 Irish men were sold to the highest bidder.
In 1656, Oliver Cromwell ordered that 2,000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.
African slaves were very expensive (50 Sterling), had to be transported long distances and paid for not only in Africa but in the New World.  Irish slaves were cheap (no more than 5 Sterling) and most often were either kidnapped from Ireland, prisoners or forcibly removed.  They could be worked to death, whipped or branded without it being a crime.  Many, many times they were beat to death and while the death of an Irish slave was a monetary setback, it was far cheaper than the death of an expensive African.  Therefore, African slaves were treated much better in Colonial America.
The importation of Irish slaves continued well into the eighteenth century, long after the importation of African slaves became the norm.  Records state that after the 1798 Irish Rebellion, thousands of Irish slaves were sold to both America and Australia.
Irish slavery didn't end until Britain decided to end slavery in 1839 and stopped transporting slaves.
The enactment of 1652 in the British Isles:
"it may be lawful for two or more justices of the peace within any county, citty or towne, corporate belonging to the commonwealth to from tyme to tyme by warrant cause to be apprehended, seized on and detained all and every person or persons that shall be found begging and vagrant.. in any towne, parish or place to be conveyed into the Port of London, or unto any other port from where such person or persons may be shipped into a forraign collonie or plantation."

Yes, slavery is horrible.
So was refusing the right to vote to someone because they were black, or female.
So is allowing companies to fire someone based on sexuality or gender identity.

We can blame slavery, Jim Crow laws, etc on history and claim that we've gotten better.
And in so many ways, we have advanced the cause of freedom in this country.
But as long as any among us aren't free, none of us are.

This Monday will be yet another Independance Day that passes with Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Sailors and Coasties who have to hide who they are to continue to serve the cause of freedom.  It hardly seems free, and seems to fly in the face of the very words on the Declaration of Independance.  "All men are created equal"

Situs, thanks for posting the Declaration of Independence.  It is important to remember how great our Founding Fathers were and what they did for us all setting up a representative democracy. And all Americans need to work together to take back our wonderful country which has been a beacon of freedom and liberty and provided vast opportunities since 1776.  An offshore criminal cabal has hijacked our dc govt and is attempting to destroy our Union.  We must all work together to expose them and reverse the damage they have done with the 911 inside job false flag standown attack, the unprovoked, illegal, undeclared, unConstitutional mideast wars, the unConstitutional Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, nafta, cafta, wto, gatt, spp and nau, and the absurb justice dept rulings that habeous corpus is dead, renditions and prison ship and black prison sites are ojkay and torture is okay.  We must drive these criminals out of our govt that have done all this and paid themselve huge illegal, unConstitutional bailouts for their bad investments and ponzi schemes.  We need to eliminate the fed whose charter is up within a year and have our own US money, not a fiat money system of an offshore private bank.
