BE, that is perfect and sums it up pretty well.  Thumbs Up

"Separation is required or there will be no freedom."

Moons, what do you mean by that? You lost me on that one.

"...act as though you have a little sense if possible."

The above written by you, on the otherhand, seems to be good advice.

The biggest problem that I think is unaddressable, is the one where insanity is allowed to flourish, unchecked. There are no rules that defend against that.

Who defines insanity?

Bee, I'm using the new "ignore" feature so I must have missed moons post. I don't think I missed anything though.

Well, Slamdunc, you are lucky to have that button, they didn't give me one! I am probably insane because I just found this link, and there is no other explanation for it. Do you believe in coincidences, or is it just too small a view to see the pattern? I'm referring to the name of the author.

Here is the simple solution to the apparent hysteric concerns of of V, apparently who is bent out of shape due to certain "verboten" (according to V's value system) posting subjects.  When the earth was considered flat and astronomers started claiming it was round, or later when folks thought the sun revolved around the earth and astronomers discovered that the earth was not the center of the Universe but revolved around the sun, control freaks executed those who had discovered the truth and declared it.  Truth is revealed in various stages.  First the public reacts with anger, accusations of one being bad, criminal or insane, then later as the truth is established beyond question and considered the norm, folks act as if it had always been so. Perhaps better to ignore what one doesn't believe to be true, reserves judgement, or dig in and do the basic research to examine the available facts.

If you don't like the poster or the subject header of the post, or as you start reading you don't like the content or direction of the post, simply pass over that post.  It's like watching TV or listening to the radio, don't tune into the channel you don't want or one you find insulting. I skip over Rush Limbaugh for those reasons. Anything beyond that is "control freak" behavior, the attemmpt to try and control how others think and feel and a desire to limit open communication.  I do not have the powerbto get RL off the air nor is it nay of my business to be concerned with that.

The off-topic section here was set up for folks to post on topics not related to GSDs.  If you can't handle that, here are some options.  Don't use this section of PDB.   Or email the site administrator (who by the way does a very good job) and request certain posters to be banned and certain subjects to be banned due to rule violations, or even request new rules--do this if you are a controlling personality type especially).  Then wait for the official decision by the admninistrator.

You can alsway ask the poster to stop posting (and see if he/she accepts or refuses and why) or can counter the posters assertions in a logical manner, perhaps providing reasonable evidence for error and room for a good and interesting discussion.  This is an international website and there are many diverse types of people who come here and they have individual interests.  Many actually want to learn about things that some just don't seem to be able to handle because they seem too upsetting or too incredulous or because they are control freaks. Petty name calling, labeling or attempting smearing is quite juvenile and a strong characteristic of control freak or hysterical over-reacting.  better to either just ignore and skip the post and poster you don't like and move on rather than showing one's true colors and inadequacies in accepting others different beliefs.

One more thing, I have owned GSD longer than some here have been alive.  I have been a long term user of PDB and posted many times about GSDs.  I also like the off topic section, but only use it intermittently.

The cool thing is Oli (the owner of the site) wants an OT section so if it bothers any members please don't click the link. The OT section doesn't require a member to have any knowledge of dogs, dog training or to post X number of times in the dog forums.

If members don't like it -  don't click on it, don't read it and don't bother commenting. Very simple concept but it does require a little self control.

Allowing others to have an opinion even when you disagree is a special gift that many have not mastered at this point but practice does make perfect. Tongue Smile

Vonissk,

I have also learned a lot over the last 2 years, things I never expected, from people I never expected it from. I guess what I tried to say earlier is sometimes we just have to walk away from it all.

Something I need to learn to do...................opinions are like other things--we all have one.............
