Bea's xrays were taken 3 days short of 13 months. Her joints were scored by the NZVA. HIPS: At the start of 2014 the NZVA switched to the PennHIP system, but in 2013 it used the BIF-scoring scheme developed by the Breed Improvement Foundation in Britain, and now used by the BVA, AVA and GSDCAustralia. It measures 9 aspects per hip, converting 16 of them to a 0-to-6 score, the other 2 to a 0-to-5 score, giving 53 : 53 as the worst possible lateral totals and 106 as the worst possible combined total. NZ's GSD average is 11½ total, Australia's is close to 14 total, Britain's is about 18 total.
