This bitches pedigree info has been submitted for update as of about a week ago. All of the dogs further back in her pedigree have been added to the database. When and if a pedigree update goes through this information will be available.

'Unknown male' (brings up Horand), No information on the sire' or 'Unknown Female', 'No information on the dam' are ways to register dogs with no parents in the database. Hopefully when the 'update' goes through this will have been corrected.

I'm glad someone explained that better than I could!! I believe Horand comes up when no date of birth is entered (that's my theory anyway). As the most senior dog that this bitch could 'theoretically' be related to is Horand. It must be the databases way of setting a default. It would be better to leave it all blank but still...

I'm not sure what the a little knowledge comment means - obviously the database has its design errors...??? I beleive it is obvious to anyone the bitch isn't the grand daughter of Horand.

Maybe those so concerned with the integrity of the database could enter in the pedigree info supplied by Freundhund - making this problem disappear - instead of typing how much of a joke this is.

I for one would be glad to see more Australian dogs on this database. It would expand the usefulness of this site even more for the Aussies who use it.

This was a beautiful wining bitch in her day. Much admired at the time. The breed in Australia has since moved on with remarkable success to modern bloodlines a testament to the lovely ladies of that era.

unknown male/unknown female is one of the ways of adding a dog to the database, used when the ancestors are not known. I suspect that all of the lines START there, (as they do have to start somewhere!) but it doesn't usually show up in the pedigree as it is further back than the number of generations we usually look at. It is a means to an end, not a statement of fact.

Any quick calculation with even a little knowledge would show that to have Horand in the third generation of a GSD alive today would mean approx 100 years spanning those generations - I THINK NOT.

This is an Australian Dog.There are not many Australian dogs/lines on this database.

I believe what has happened is that since the Grand sire's/Dam's are not on this database, it has brought up Horand etc somehow.

Maybe some aussies could put some of the more well known aussie lines in this database.

Or there are aussie databases in which you can research this dog's pedigrees etc. I can't recall the link of the top of my head...
