Centurian,
The thing about schutzhund/IPO/IPG is that you can pattern train for it because the exercises are exactly the same every time, as opposed to a sport like PSA. In that sport, too often, people try to train for the trial and end up creating problems because the foundation work has to be laid in a way that you can build on it for the upper levels which involves teaching the dog some critical thinking more that simply the mechanics of an exercise because the exercises are unknown in every trial, up to a point.

V26 Gondor’s is better than it looks.

V27 Cosmo the grass was wet and the decoy didn’t help any.

Apple ... YES , Foundation . That is THE point ! You make a sound point about foundation . PSA , I undertrsatnd what you mean - that has merit . But I also have trained Mondio and Ring Sports that are not patterned , choreographic . This is foundation at it's best : when I did my AD and Sch 1 OB , that was the very very very first time ever my GS did the Sch 1 heel pattern and he did not miss one step , absolutely perfect it was. HOw and Why ? Because of what you said : Foundation ... if one teaches the heel correctly , then it does not matter how, where , when, and why you walk that dog in heel .

You talk about higher levels. So I will share this with you . Right at the begining of foundation , at the very very beginning , step one of teaching, I utilize every single type of distraction possible when teaching and at the very very begining I generalize the teaching and prepare for,  as you say, different levels. Right away , the dog learns to think !!! !     Interesting that you bring this up .. in the long post that I had previously deleted ,I made a reference to Ivan Balvanov . I wrote to you , although deleted , that once I heard him say that when he teaches his dogs that he does not want them at times to think . Yes.. those were his exact words. When I heard that my eyes rolled to the back of my head and I laughed inside at him ! So on this , 'allowing the dog to think" , to me is critical in what I do in the foundation work with them [ the ppups or young dogs]. So to stay on topic , as I wrote , much about dogs , ' just depends " . I thank God for the GSs that I have had and I have . So . I hope the readers understand why I wrote that the performance of the bite work at the Sieger Show for many dogs ,is IMOP an embarrassment at best.

''Pirlo'' I love you. Very sound, confident temperament for such a young dog, just 2 years old. He should get lots of breedings.
