Ruger - That's why when people ask me about raw feeding I tell them to start slow. Start adding fresh food to kibble and then over time add more and more fresh until kibble is phased out (or is just a small portion).

You can also feed a dehydrated like The Honest Kitchen and throw in some fresh meat/organs/tripe/eggs. This is what I usually do and it is super simple.

Only pre-made raw that I know of that is cost effective for a large dog is the Titan blends.

Before switching to complete raw, I was feeding kibble and dressing it up as you all have suggested! I enjoyed providing him the variety and I think it was working for Damien too,,,

I thawed out my first two pounds of the ground chicken quarters with heart, liver, and kidney added that I purchased from the butcher ,,, I paid $60 for about 50 lbs ,,,,😊

If I feed kibble and dressed the top with the chicken quarters, canned salmon, canned green tripe, and things like yogurt, cottage cheese and an occasional veggie mix ,,,, I think it might be my best option ,,,,

This is what I was thinking 💭...

I am going to feed a 50/50 ratio of raw/whole and kibble ~ I am going to mix four different kibbles together and continually switch the brands up this way if something should be recalled he hasn’t got enough of any one kibble to affect him too greatly,,,💡🤔? Any thoughts about that ? Thanks ,,,

Don't mix the kibbles!

One brand such as isuggested, is your best option. Otherwise your dogs are going to never have time to adjust other the different brands...nt all kibbles are created equal!
When your odgs get diarrhea from one, there's no way to know which one caused hte problem. The band I suggested is a complete and BALANCED diet, and will become UNbalanced by adding more protien, etcetera.
If you insist on feeding raw, pick a day to feed that instead of the kibble...mixing them is not healthy for your dogs' digestion.

Thanks joanro for your thoughts 😊

Damien has always eaten premium kibble ; I’d say that he eats the best kibbles. First three ingredients are always a meat protein~

Not over run with potatoes or peas or lentils ect ect , though it’s hard to get away from them entirely~

I’ve switched around his kibble in the past using a handful of well known premium brands without a problem ,,,He has a healthy gut and has not had issues with loose stools ect ect ,,,,

So given all of that, 👆I am interested in what others think about the mixing of kibbles ,,,
All kibbles in the upper ranges of premium are about the same give or take a few things,,,

And btw ,, I don’t nesesarily “insist upon raw”, as much as I want to incoperate whole
foods and not be dependent on any one kibble ,,,,

Here's how I see the issue of being prepared for " recall"....

When/ if it happens to the brand you are using ( I still mmaintain one brand alone is best) thenn deal with it...buy a different unrelated brand. Switching from one to another as long as the quality is equally high, there is no problem. That is inconvienient but not a big deal
Instead, you are feeding your dog as though there is already an issue wiht a brand. In other words, you are living in the storm seller when the weather is beautiful, just in case some day there happens to be a tornado.

Whole foods are great but supposedly not mixed with anything else, in other as suggested do all raw one day or two maybe, then kibble separate. You can add yogurt, canned or cooked meats to kibbles but I would not do raw and kibble together. I think NutroPro by Victor is a great choice or any victor foods are good; I use Victor salmon (with bear on front of bag, I tried their Ocean Fish also with OK results the bear one on front of bag is better). also using Petcurean for the aussie (Gather fish) and am going to add some ground beef soon and am using some yogurt; keep it simple as you can. So you might just try kibble and add some meat. Simple. I found the raw only to be a hell of a lot of work and some worry due to grocery store meats etc. Fed raw only for 5 years then went back to kibble with yogurt and am trying to add some meat now; will probably stick to ground beef or?? Not exactly sure. My theory is "If it ain't broke don't fix it". My guys look shiny, TONS of energy and good stool. I also found raw to be very costly at about $100-150) per dog per month; I had five at that time. Gees was terribly expensive. So best of luck. I have also used The Honest Kitchen, K9 kravings; made my own homemade foods which is also a ton of work even for 2 dogs plus you have to balance their formula at some point. I used 5 # rolls of ground turkey but I cooked it and added vegi's, eggs, yogart, pumpkin, also same with ground beef. So food for thought. BOL Nan

The whole reason for the initial switch was because Damien walked away from his kibble one evening and that was totally unlike him!
That sent up a yellow flag so we started watching him to see if he was acting strangely in any other way,,,

Finally, I just had a gut feeling that something wasn’t right about him and I could not overlook my gut feeling.

I was frustrated with the whole “manufactured” food thing, I returned the kibble and decided to make my own!
His activity level increased significantly, within a couple of days of stopping the kibble, but was it related to the raw or was something going on with the kibble?

Still thinking 🤔...

i guess all that pulled off shelves turkey meat gonna be bought at price a penny on the dollar by the pet food industry and sold back to you as a kibbles.
