That is a very legitimate statement Daryl.
And to the point of this topic by the original poster,
this is exactly one of the reasons why people advertise being Fero/Mink free.

I was explaining to another breeder acquaintance why I don't bother with the Mink lines as he has; precisely because I know that I'll be linebreeding, and closely.

Ziegenfarm hit the nail on the head while both are great dogs to have in ones lines thoses without it offer a differant route I myself would like to see both dogs in the lines ESP. Fero, and many of  the top competing dogs you see will have one or both of these dogs in the lines.

Ha ha....still blaming Mink and Fero for problems in a dog 5 generations gone. What about the other 40 dogs involved in the pedigree. I've been around numerous progeny of both dogs and have not seen the supposed aggression. I have seen individual dogs have handler aggression issues and usually it is the handlers fault...and it's always easy to blame the dog. You wouldn't know it was a Fero or Mink progeny unless you looked at the pedigree. My male has Mink..Fero..Crok...Lewis...all those bad genes....:-)

Another reason might be for someone who wants a bitch and would then have the option to go and use Mink or Fero lines on her.  In racing greyhounds they often advertise pups for sale as not having xxx or yyy in their lines, so the buyers can then use those lines on their pup if breeding in the future.

Judron, also, how many of those same people are drawn to those qualities because of their own, um, issues, and they make it a self-fulfilling prophecy? I,too, have yet to see "true" handler aggression in dogs who supposedly possessed it. Far more often, I see "my owner is an idiot" than "I want to kill my owner."

Not to say there isn't truth to the genetic component, but IMO, it gets blown out of proportion and overused instead of looking at what you might be doing to cause this tendency in a dog w/a certain temperament. I have a dog who I was repeatedly warned about being this way. I have never, ever, seen so much as a hint of that.

I personally like this combination as well as Crok and Mink  line-breeding. Some of the best dogs I have seen came from theses crosses as well as Fero, lewis Crok crossings.  Make the kind of dogs I like. They tend to have an edge about them like the dogs did 10 or 15 years ago. Make for natural protection dogs and very good police dogs as well as great dogs to watch in the bitework at trials, they did not always score as high as some of the prey monsters who did not take the bitework as serious but I will take dogs from these crosses anytime.

You see that on a lot of breeders profiles.  Dogs and Horses that are used  alot...some people don't want to keep line breeding or inbreeding as the case may be.  So it simply tells breeders what their pedigree is ...with a little heads up.  Helps save time, searching...etc.
