VKGSDs

by VKGSDs on 10 June 2016 - 01:06

There are various venues for agility, some are known for having larger, more flowy feeling courses (but that also makes them even faster and more competitive). The course in the video looked typical of AKC agility. The GSD was nice but there are faster GSDs (and there are a lot slower!). I thought it was kinda funny how big a deal the commentators made about his slip at the beginning. My young agility dog just started doing the same thing. He's getting more confident with his obstacles and me more confident with my handling, so he's getting a lot faster but is still learning how to collect his own body, so he often slips on his shoulder like that making tight turns trying to collect. It's not a huge deal. I don't necessarily disagree with bubba. I love doing agility (I've done it with three GSDs and none of mine are/were large - my bitch was 21" 50lbs, first male is 24.5" and 75lbs and his son is a hair under 24" so running 20" in CPE and 65lbs), but I know if I really want to be competitive, the GSD is not the breed for that. You are competing against the dogs in your same jump height and level, not breed, so if I want to win and win big, I need a different dog. Doesn't mean I don't love GSDs and doing many sports with them (and my GSDs do win blue ribbons in AKC, just not national events).
