IF A JUDGE CHOOSES AN ALSATION THIS YEAR AS BEST OF BREED, OR RESERVE OR CC, OR RCC, OR THEY COME 2ND OR 3RD, I WILL BE SO ANGRY AT THE KENNEL CLUB.
WE HAVE SOME NEWS ON THE VOTES, THERE IS POSSIBLY ANOTHER DOG COMING IN.

NOT MENTAL. VOTES ARE STILL CARRYING ON

If the overexaggeration and topline issues aren't sorted out in the germanic GSD, there won't be any CCs awarded in the UK for 2010, so no GSDs in 2011 at Crufts anyway, so I doubt they would be overly concerned if there were none in 2010 either.

i don't think even the judge will know until he starts judging

Good point Jambo, but still take a guess anyway, come on!

Dingodog, you have a point, but there wll be no CC's currently n 2012, not 2010. I think you have a point, but i also think the Germanic GSD breeders, might put the in crufts next year, to prove they are stronger, by having more of them in the ring, so therefore more of a chance of them winning.

Dingodog, having just returned from Germany and attended the speach made by Herr Reinhardt Meyer on saturday evening. The current problems we have in the breed are Size and Hind angulation. Toplines as you suggest were never mentioned. I am sure the Member Breed Clubs of the WUSV here  in the UK and the Breed Council will address this situation but currently toplines are not an issue although they need to be correct as described in the current standard.

Member:
The current problems that the UK KC are identifying are topline (roach boack) and overangulation.  The member breed clubs are going to be meeting with the KC with a view to addressing the situation, hence why the timeline of 2012 for the possible withholding of CC certificates.

If toplines are not correct, they are surely also an issue. This is undoubtedly the whole point, that the breed standard in many areas including those you mention, are incorrect.  If all of those areas were addressed we should hopefully be seeing a much improved dog overall, which is what the KC are aiming for. I would have to say though, that certain people who currently gain top awards are very, very much against the changes - so it is not a 'given' that the breed councils will agree. Much like the SV, there is much to lose by certain people by conforming to the breed standards, as their dogs are so in demand as studs whilst the current 'shape' is prevalent. Sadly the GSD breed is one represented by the most divided and political supporters I have ever known.

I would very much like to see a transcript of the speech by Herr Meyer, and if you can direct me to one I would very much appreciate it. I have been told it is much like a previous speech he gave which resulted in no changes whatsoever. Couple this with Vegas being crowned VA and you have to wonder what it is all about. Rhetoric is never going to solve the problems.

Hamza
Apologies, you are right, it should have read 2012.  The point is that the UK KC are slightly amending the breed standard (to minimise exaggerations), and will judge dogs being bred to the standard, which is simply not happening now in either Germany or the UK. Germanic dogs largely represent the 'faults' that the KC is trying to eliminate (overangulation, roach backs, loose hocks), therefore it follows that either middle of the road or (hopefully not) the 'alsatian' type will be favoured. I suspect that if the KC stay on the road they are on breeders of Germanic dogs, or German dogs won't actually bother to attend on this basis. We shall see, but if the KC are to stay true to what they have laid out the dogs that have regularly been highly placed before will not do so well.

If you don't wan't to see 'alsatians' winning, the international GSD needs to get it's house in order and breed to the standard.
