Grizzly K

by Grizzly K on 08 September 2015 - 02:09

Thanks for all your replies. The parasites look like small white grains of rice. The vet kept him to make sure the complete dosages were given...they gave him three big pills. I am going to try panacur as mentioned and yes he is up to date with his shots and fleas.

Is puppy on heart worm preventative thT u give monthly
That dosage is small but it help u not have to worry as it kllls most worms.
Tapes are from fleas n reoccur. So get him some Safegusrd goat wormer which is Panacur. Poster gave u the. Dosage.
If your vet just wormed her this week than wait 30 days.
Clean yard spray for fleas
Move puppy to a new kennel n make sure pup Is on. Flea  preventative
Some don't work. I don't give revolution or new ones that do 6 deeds as too many chemicals
K9 advantage works in most areas

Frontline has failed so many people since comany changed origin of production

german shepherds require safe chemicals n a lot of vets don't know much about this breed. Stay around and ask
Vets try to push tons of nonsense on people
Ask on here. Read past threads by putting words In search forum
Many here can advise good wholesome
SAFE solutions

Grizzly K you are here in the states so using a US Vet.  Why did they not give  your dog a shot for the tapeworms, this is standard.  If your dog is in an area that it will reinfect easily then you can either get another shot roughly every 4 months or go and get yourself some Tapeworm tablets and do it yourself.  Research online  you can use brand name Bayer Droncit, or Drontal Plus if you think you have more worms than tapes or you can use another  brand that uses the same chemical.

You have to get rid of fleas and prevent your dog from eating anything dead that could have tapeworms.

by hntrjmpr434 on 08 September 2015 - 13:09

Vet gave 3 big pills? That tells us nothing. What was dosage and type? Is he/she often kept in their feces? Water source, what do you feed?

How do dogs get tapeworms?

tapeworm_infection-2When the infected eggs are released into the environment, they have to be swallowed by immature flea larvae in the environment. Once inside the larval flea, the tapeworm egg continues to develop as the flea matures into an adult flea. During grooming or in response to a flea bite, a dog can ingest the tapeworm infected flea and complete the life cycle.

Flea larvae do not feed on the dog. They feed on the bits of dead skin the dog sheds, so their favourite hiding places are carpets, cracks in the floor, dog bedding or in the cushions of the couch, if your dog sleeps on the couch.

Your best weapon against them is your vacuum cleaner, and a good flea spray. Make sure you throw the contents of the vacuum out immediately after vacuuming to prevent re-infestation from the eggs, cocoons and larvae.

I would just be careful not to do too much to his delicate system at once, he is very young, I would probably add a small amount of yogart to his food maybe a tablespoon each feeding while he is having problems; and I would find out what your vet used to worm him with and do not repeat with that wormer again any time soon; however, you do want to be sure what you use on him is safe. Best I have found for tape worm is Drontal; or Drontal plus if there are other possibilities for round, whip, hookworms. You need to be careful though with Drontal plus as my boy was very sensitive to it at her age and was very uncomfortable after worming him with Drontal Plus.

I would also get him some type of flea control, Frontline drops, Advantage II, most of the natural stuff (essential oils, etc) did not work. but Advantage usually takes care of the fleas and I think it is probably the safest I have been able to find. I use half dosage that is recommended to start to be sure he is not going to have a reaction to it though, then repeat l/2 dose in 2 weeks and bathe him before putting on if you can. If not go ahead and use l/2 dose anyway to start, see how he does. Then worm. And you will probably have to repeat worming in 4-6 weeks again. Just my guess. Good luck Nan

I accidentally stumbled on this natural product for repelling fleas. Before I found this I couldn't get rid of the fleas on Bev. Frontline didn't work. Bio-Spot didn't work, nothing did. Fleas are a really bad problem in FL as we never get any killing frosts. Anyway, so far, so good in case anyone is interested in trying it. I get mine from Puritan's Pride where I buy my supplements. I spray her every other week, wrap her in a towel for about 10 minutes, haven't seen any fleas for months. And it smells good too!!

Advantage 11 is the only thing that works in Texas
Frontline is useless

Sprayed the whole front of place yesterday and put out DE also

Diatumcheus Earth ?sp? is another good thing to put everywhere outside FOOD GRADE Only from Feed Store.....FOOD GRADE only so if pup licks it it is ok
Some breeders and owners use DE to worm their dogs...We do occassionally...Humans take DE also for certain parasitic diseases..
