We all want pretty and correct dogs, but a little white wouldn't scare me away from a nice SAR prospect :-)

Are you interested in looking more up in the Washington state area or down in California. Both the breeders I've mentioned have titled multiple dogs, males and females and have been producing quality GSDs for the last 20+ years, many of them in working homes. Julia Priest, in particular, has produced a large number of dogs working in SAR and other scent-focused jobs. If you're looking up in the Washington state area, I have had very pleasant interactions with Jill Frost at Timberhaus K-9 -- for SAR, I'd recommend having at least one of the parents be German working lines (not just DDR) or bringing in proven prey/ball and hunt drive.

I second Blackthorn's recommendations re Julia Priest of von Sontausen and Kathy & Mike Moacanin of von Herzensfreude--if I was on the West Coast and seeking a dog for SAR, or any other working capacity for that matter, I wouldn't feel I'd really done my research unless I checked to see if either of these breeders had 'my' dog...
