Koots

And I wouldn't think it would take a rocket scientist to come on here and just say either their dog grew very much after it turned 8 months old, that is merely what I've been asking here in this thread!

Geez, I'm no rocket scientist, but am most likely qualified to fix a rocket, or at least I'm qualified to fix an airplane.      Maybe if you dropped the attitude, you might get more help.     And if you aren't giving attitude, it sure comes across that way.      I was merely trying to be helpful and point out the fact that NO ONE, without intimate knowledge of the dogs in the pedigree, can suggest that the dog has finished growing or has a lot of growing left to do.    But, carry on, I won't try to help anymore.

@Koots- sorry if I sounded like I was giving "attitude"  I surely am not. I'm just trying to get a very general idea on if MOST dogs, regardless of pedigree/lineage, would/should be pretty much finished with most growing by this age.  I figured if, say 75% of the people replying said yes or no, I could have a pretty good idea.  I am aware that its not a for sure thing, just wanted a general idea of what other people thought.  Thanks for helping!

Well I have to add that genetics does play a hugh role in size;  for instance my boy now 13 months is oversized;  his breeder told me he would be BUT I did not see it when he was a puppy,  I really felt he would be average size.  She stated that his particular sire's puppies boys impaticular tend to be larger although the sire;  Grocco Vom Valicante himself is very standard size.  Soooooooo I really tended to disagree with her as again I surely did not see it in this puppy;  well guess what ----  She was right.  He is oversized.  For me that is not good, told her I did not want an oversized boy but got it anyway;  however I do not blame her as I insisted I wanted "my particular boy" puppy.   There you have it.  So pedigree does play an important role particularly if there is size behind the sire or dam and a definite track record.  Good luck with whatever you decide.  Nan

The last three intact male shepherds I've owned and raised were not done growing at that age.  Maybe height wise (I do not know as I don't personally measure my dogs, I do show them in SV shows but they aren't always measured), but definitely not weight-wise and filling out.  My all WGSL male actually filled out until he was 4 years old, his head widened and physique changed a bit from age 3-4.  My WL and cross males may have been at or near adult height at that age but nowhere near filled out (like I said my current 8 month old male is 44 lbs and received a really nice critique the last time he was shown, he's not undersize).  I had a WL male that weighed about 65 lbs from age 8 months to about 20 months and is now closer to 80lbs at nearly 4 years old.

Thanks nans and VKGSDs. These are the types of experiences I was hoping to hear. I feel he may not get alot taller but know he will continue filling out. And I do know genetics play a big part in it.
